Despite the cellphone ban that dropped down a year ago, Canadians are still talking and texting while driving according to a new survey done by the Manitoba Canadian Automobile Association.

According to the survey, 99.4% of the 11,000 people surveyed said they've seen drivers texting and talking while behind the wheel. There are no current statistics for the other provinces and territories but we could assume that drivers are breaking the law.

Manitoba Public Insurance said drivers who text are 23 times more likely to get into a collision. Drivers who text spend nearly five seconds at a time looking at their cellphones, which translates at typical highway speeds to covering more than the length of a football field, said MPI.

This shouldn't come as a surprise because a study done last year revealed that texting while driving bans don't work. There are applications that can enforce the ban but drivers have to buy and install them into their vehicles.

It is no surprise that many Canadians are still concerned with other motorist that text while behind the wheel. Many of us still see it everyday and not just with teens. We see drivers of all ages texting and using their cell phone while driving.
