Chrysler is planning on making some market changes. Those changes will inevitably affect Canada and the United States. Although both North American countries are just a short jog away, Chrysler has some future plans regarding their minivan line. Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne has explained in the past how the brand is looking to stop making duplicate offerings between inner brands. This would be an effort that will likely see them able to turn out different product, making a stronger more unique vehicle lineup for each brand.
According to the plan, the U.S. will only get a replacement Chrysler Town & Country when the new model is due out, while Canada on the other hand will keep the Dodge Grand Caravan namesake and not be offered the Town & Country. What is the reason behind the juxtaposition? The answer is simple, the Chrysler Town & Country outsells the Dodge Grand Caravan in the U.S. two-to-one, while here in Canada the Dodge beats out the Chrysler offering by a staggering 10-to-one.
"If we go to one minivan, it would certainly be the Dodge Grand Caravan in Canada, but the Town & Country resonates more strongly in the U.S., so that's going to be the van in the U.S.," said Reid Biglund, head of the Dodge brand.
"There's just so much equity in the Caravan name in Canada," he added.
With that said, Canadian minivan purchasers will be glad to know that we can expect the latest rendition of the Grand Caravan within the next two years.
