In the past, consumers wanting an Infiniti family hauler had rather limited choices. If the kids were still little, the EX might cut it while those who reveled in the performance aspects of the brand could go for the FX. While being drop dead sexy and an honest canyon carver, the cargo capacity of that bad boy is rather lacking. The next step up the ladder is the gargantuan QX. It may hold a driver and a full line of hockey players, but navigating the parking lot at the rink can be a challenge. For 2013, Infiniti is set to fill that gap with the all new, 7 passenger JX.

Originally shown as a concept at Pebble Beach in August, Infiniti had planned to unveil the production version at the LA auto show a couple of weeks ago. For whatever reason, the launch schedule was changed and the showroom version will debut in Canada at the Montreal International Auto Show in January.

As one might expect, the luxury that Infiniti has become known for will abound, coupled with some innovative rear seating solutions to age old problems. Forward sliding second row seats will make accessing the third row easier than most seven passenger conveyances. The geometry of this system allows third row passengers to clamber in even if there is a child seat in the second row.

A bevy of techno nannies will be hard at work to ensure that distracted drivers are less likely to bang into something. Infiniti is calling the system the "All Around Safety Shield" which includes Blind Spot Intervention, Lane Departure Warning and Prevention and a new system called Backup Collision Intervention. That's right, the JX is going to jump in and save the day by applying the brakes should you attempt to reverse into something. No word if the sensors will pick up on Junior's bike when it is lying in the driveway.

Beneath the hood of the JX will lie Nissan's award winning VQ six cylinder engine, ensuring it will perform like an Infiniti is expected to. In this application in will displace 3.5L and generate 265 horsepower and 248 lb-ft of torque and will be mated to a CVT style transmission to enhance fuel economy. Due to the realities of our Winter conditions, Canadian models will be offered only in all wheel drive. South of the border, where warm climate consumers have little use for AWD, the JX will be offered as a front wheel drive also.

Today, Infiniti Canada announced that the newest addition to its lineup, the Infiniti JX luxury crossover, will make its Canadian debut at the 2012 Montreal International Auto Show (MIAS) in January. Canadian pricing for the all-new Infiniti JX will be announced at the press conference. In line with its expanded partnership with Red Bull racing, Infiniti will also display the championship-winning RB7 Formula 1 car in its booth at the MIAS.

"In January, Canadians will get an up-close look of the vehicle which will offer a bold new option in the luxury crossover segment," says Wendy Durward, Director of Infiniti Canada. "The new JX is a consummate blend of luxury, safety and convenience with power and performance. With its highly functional seven-passenger seating, the new Backup Collision Intervention technology, a powerful, yet efficient drivetrain, and the elegance and craftsmanship customary to Infiniti, this crossover adds an exciting alternative in this segment."

The all-new Infiniti JX is designed to excel in the areas that luxury crossover buyers desire most – interior flexibility and roominess, safety and advanced hospitality features. Inspired by versatility and convenience, the JX offers real 3rd row utility with easy-access due to wide door openings and long forward slide of the 2nd row seat. Plus, the multi-mode 2nd row seat's unique forward movement function overcomes the typical problem of having to remove a 2nd row child seat for entry or exit.

The Infiniti JX continues Infiniti's tradition of developing world's first technologies, adding a new feature, Backup Collision Intervention (BCI), to the currently available Blind Spot Intervention™ (BSI) system. The addition of BCI is the latest of nine technologies that comprise the "All-around Safety Shield" of the new JX. Other available technology includes both Infiniti's Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Lane Departure Prevention (LDP) systems.

The AWD JX addresses the growing desire among luxury crossover drivers to have both responsive performance and good fuel efficiency. The standard 3.5-litre DOHC V6 is mated to a sport-tuned Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) to provide high responsiveness and seamless, efficient shifting feel. The engine is rated at 265 horsepower @ 6,400 rpm and 248 lb-ft of torque @ 4,400 rpm.

From the start of the 2011 Formula One season, Infiniti has been a major partner of the Red Bull Racing team, and is featured prominently on the race-winning RB7 driven by world champion and Infiniti Global Brand ambassador, Sebastian Vettel. Infiniti Canada is pleased to feature - for the first time at a Canadian auto show - the RB7 Formula 1 car in a unique exhibit at the 2012 MIAS.

"As the official partner for the Red Bull Formula 1 team, we were thrilled to see the team have a phenomenally successful season," says Durward. "The city of Montreal has a reputation of hosting the Canadian Grand Prix with an exceptional level of enthusiasm and excitement, and the Infiniti booth will offer Montreal auto show goers a unique, up-close-and-personal glimpse into the Championship Red Bull team with the official F1 car on prominent display."
