Ahh, Tail of the Dragon... 318 turns over an 11 mile stretch of the US129 highway. We've made the pilgrimage several times ourselves and truly can't get enough of the place. Luckily as hectic as it ever got, nothing serious happened but you have to have respect for this outrageous mountain pass. Many people have been injured and yes, lost their lives testing the Dragon, so all of the roads near the North Carolina and Tennessee border are not to be underestimated.
The SCCA had the pull to turn one of these publics road into a racing playground if not just for a weekend. While typically the twisty road is open to traffic of all types in both directions (including semi-trucks) organizers shut 'er down for the: 2011 Chasing the Dragon SCCA Pro Hillclimb event and put together a promo video.
Truly great footage after the jump, which gives us the itch to get back out there and slay the Dragon once again... and we have to add that we'd probably tear this event up since we didn't have the luxury of crossing the double line and properly cutting the apex.
