Guys on the whole have never been considered an overly bright bunch when there is alcohol involved, but some are just that extra little bit special. Williams Lake, British Columbia, resident Corbin Joseph is the latest to prove that some tools are not as sharp as the others.
Way back on New Year's Eve, 2009, Joseph crashed his truck. He was prohibited from driving at the time, so he convinced one of his passengers to say she was driving when the accident occurred.
When Joseph received money from his insurance company to compensate him for the written off vehicle, he bragged about it on Facebook. Joseph's friends were not impressed by the man's nonsense and reported him to the Insurance Corporation of B.C. When he discovered that his case had been re-opened, Joseph attempted to get his accomplice back on his side:
"He sent her phone texts and Facebook messages offering her apparently considerable sums of money and legal assistance if she stuck to the original story," said ICBC spokesperson Jan Vrem.
While ICBC policy prevents staff from creating phantom Facebook profiles to spy on customers, they had no need to do so while investigating Joseph. The man's Facebook profile was fully public and his activities were on display for the whole World to see.
Insurance fraud costs Canadian motorists a fortune, so the exposure of a miscreant like Joseph is sweet revenge. His stupidity has cost Joseph $2,000 and a three month conditional sentence for obstruction of justice. Not only will his criminal record follow him around for a very long time, but his bank account is lighter by an additional $18,000 which he had to pay back to ICBC.
What a great story for a guy to have on his Facebook Timeline!
