Since the launch of the legitimately trail tough Jeep Wrangler Unlimited in 2007, fans have been begging Jeep to build a pick-up version like the legendary CJ-8 of yore. Last summer, they responded by introducing the Mopar JK8 package to convert a Wrangler Unlimited to a pickup. This kit formed the basis for the Red Jacket that was recently delivered to Jay Leno.

Jeep has brought a big, blue JK8 Northern Edition to the Toronto Auto Show and at the media preview, it stole the show. In fact, Chrysler Canada staff said they had received more inquiries about the blue beast than any other model on display.

Priced at $6,000 here in Canada, the JK8 package turns a 4 door Wrangler Unlimited into an ultra tough looking 2 door pick me up. Of course when the kit is installed on a Rubicon, the resulting truck has the mechanical prowess to back up the look.

Perhaps the best part of this kit is the fact that it can be installed in just one hour, meaning that one could convert their daily ride to an off road warrior for the weekend and revert back to a kiddie wagon for the Monday school run. Don't believe us? Hit the jump to see it done!

Right, I'm going to drop $37,000 on a 2012 wrangler to throw away half the parts and add another $6000 for a total of $43,000. On a freakin' Wrangler???? Mopar is nuts, any of you who'd do this are nuts. It's a freakin' tin box on big wheels. It doesn't even have a V8 but only gets 17 mpg? I thought we were in the middle of a recession?

COOL! This only further cements my decision to buy a Wrangler.
