Solar power has come a long way over the years, and no one knows that better than solar car guru Marcelo da Luz. Although solar-powered vehicles are currently not allowed to be driven on Ontario roads, it still wasn't enough to stop Da Luz and his solar car from spreading their environmental message with a memorable journey.
In order to draw attention to his cause, Marcelo da Luz pulled the solar car he helped build in 1999 over 450 km using a body harness, challenging people to change one of their habits for 28 days and make Canadians more environmentally friendly.
"I'm not trying to tell people what to do," said da Luz. "I'm just asking them to think about their habits and how they affect the environment, pick one and try to make a change."
He successfully pulled the 250-kg solar-powered car by hand from his home in Toronto to Parliament Hill in Ottawa. Da Luz has also set a record for travel across Canada and he has travelled to the north in a solar-powered vehicle.
