When it comes to iconic automotive brands, few can compare to that of Porsche. The unmistakable shapes, sleek design and impressive performance associated with the brand is known around the world, as their products often speak for themselves.
What many do not know, is that Porsche also offers a unique and exclusive line of luxury lifestyle products by Porsche Design. While the founder of the Porsche Design luxury brand, Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche had strong roots in the classic automotive company that bears his name, the design company is a completely separate entity with a unique brand and product offering.

During a presentation by Khalid Kadrie, President of Porsche Design Canada and special guest Dr. Juergen Gessler, CEO of the Porsche Design Group we learned this luxury brand is responsible for some of the world's most iconic fashion statements, including aviator glasses with an innovative interchangeable lens-mechanism and the world's first black watch.

"At Porsche Design we believe to be cool is very easy for a brand, but to continue to stay cool in the future is the challenge. This means that you cannot follow trends but instead get the most out of what is working for a particular trend, while staying true to your history and heritage," says Dr. Juergen Gessler. "It is important to be young in mind and interested in new ideas."
We had a chance to step behind closed doors and velvet ropes for a closer look at what Porsche Design during the recent grand opening in Toronto's fashion-forward Yorkville area. This special event marked the very first Porsche Design store in Canada, as the modern 1,600 square store includes luxury collections in categories such as men's and women's fashion apparel, luggage, men's activewear, writing tools, fragrances, smoking accessories, leather goods, jewelry, timepieces, eyewear and home accessories.

"We are very excited to bring Porsche Design to Canada," says Dr. Juergen Gessler. "Most of these products have not been seen here before. We believe consumers of luxury fashion are going to be very excited with the elegance and range of our products."
After the daylight grand opening in front of the media, the Porsche Design after party got underway at dusk. On hand was Dr. Juergen Gessler, CEO of Porsche Design Group along with his new bestie, Thorsten Heins, the CEO of Research in Motion (who recently collaborated on the stunning Porsche Design P'9981 Smartphone from Blackberry) along with all of the beautiful people from the local scene. With live DJs spining, mixology sharpshooter Christine Sismundo making the signature Porsche cocktails and celeb chef Jamie Kennedy preparing the eats, everyone enjoyed themselves well into the evening.

But the event was more about the Porsche Design products located within the store. A fashion runway popped up and spilled right out onto Bloor Street, where all of the designer clothing could be seen. Everything from the Canadian debut of the new and extraordinary Porsche Design P'9981 Smartphone from BlackBerry to the Porsche Design Hookah were on hand for guests to test out. We personally fell for the white leather Porsche Design Adidas runners but be warned their innovative fully mechanical suspension system comes with a $600.00 price tag.
At the end of the evening, everyone was well versed in what the Porsche Design lifestyle brand had to offer. It is an authentic brand with a strong focus on technically inspired luxury products. And contrary to other lifestyle efforts, the Porsche Design gear is subtle, sleek and advanced. These impressive products are perfect for casual or elegant outings, without all of the stigma attached to having some cheesy red and yellow leather sleeved Ferrari bomber jacket.
If you've been looking for a unique luxury items to suit your lifestyle, be sure to check out Porsche Design in Toronto.
