Watch out Newfoundland, the Scorpion is about to take on Targa! Fresh on the heels of its introduction to the North American market, the Fiat 500 Abarth will be competing in the 2012 Targa Newfoundland from September 8-15.

The even bigger news is that two-time Formula Drift champion (and amazing stunt-driver) Samuel Hubinette will pilot this Fiat 500 Abarth alongside Targa Newfoundland veteran Jen Horsey as co-driver. In previous Targa events, Chrysler has entered more traditional performance vehicles including an SRT Viper, Chrysler 300C SRT8, Dodge Charger SRT8, Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8, Dodge Caliber SRT4 and the popular Dodge Challenger.

Although this Fiat may not seem like an obvious choice, it is a very potent performer armed with a 1.4-litre MultiAir Turbo engine and Abarth-tuned suspension designed to unleash the brand's legendary performance heritage. After all, the cute yet fun Fiat 500 Abarth has been designed for enthusiasts and driving purists who seek a little high-performance personality in a surprisingly small package and this rally event aims to prove it.

This unique and challenging rally spans over 2,000 kilometres of intense, twisty roads along the central and eastern portion of Newfoundland, including 450 kilometres of closed-road, flat-out Targa stages!
