With over 4,000 feet of perfectly paved runway, the Race the Runway event at Russ Beach Smiths Falls Airport hosted a lengthy list of exotic cars and sport bikes ready to race for a good cause.
Located just 80 km outside of Ottawa, ON, this volunteer run charity event aims to raise money for the Russ Beach Smiths Falls-Montague Aviation Museum to capture, share and preserve the rich aviation history and legacy of this remarkable airport.
Judging by the impressive turnout of high horsepower exotics and performance cars, the last thing anyone expected to see was the best 1/4 mile time set by an electric-powered Tesla Roadster!
The impressive Tesla shocked the crowd (and its competition) with its best quarter-mile run at a blistering 10.39 seconds, making it the big winner of the day. To put things in perspective, that's well ahead of fuel-fed super cars including a Nissan GT-R (11.535), Ford GT (11.691), Dodge Viper ACR (12.023), Carrera GT (12.273), and a Ferrari California (12.639).
Exotic and high performance automakers had better take note, as this is just the latest example of Tesla's electric technology kicking some serious butt. The old stigma of slouching electric car performance is quickly fading away and continues to surprise petrol heads everywhere. Who said you can't be green and still go fast?
