We've all seen the video of NBA star Kobe Bryant jumping over a speeding Aston Martin, but was that the inspiration for the tragic stunt performed by this 19-year-old Florida athlete?
The graphic accident happened when Bladimir Barreto attempted to jump over a moving car to impress football recruiters with a viral video showing off his skills... only instead of landing a spot on a college football team, Barreto landed himself in the hospital with serious injuries.
After being emergency airlifted to nearby hospital, doctors say Barreto (who hasn't woken up since the crash) has suffered several broken bones and severe body and head injuries which required 89 stitches in just one leg.
Nearby neighbours and family friends told Local 10 News reporters "[Baretto] was an athlete, the kid could run up the side of a building, do all kinds of crazy flips, he was just that phenomenal... he's always doing stuff like that and he's always getting it right, so I guess he just got over confident."
Police say charges are pending against Barreto's 17-year-old brother Jerome, identified as the driver of the white Honda Accord in the video for driving without a license and possibly reckless driving. This family affair also included their other brother, Giovanny as the cameraman who recorded the entire stunt gone wrong.
