Dan Akerson's 1958 Chevrolet Corvette

General Motors CEO Dan Akerson has said his final goodbye to his own personal 1958 Chevrolet Corvette. The car just sold here at the 2013 Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, with a final gavel price of US$270,000 – since 100 per cent of the sale price is slated to benefit Habitat for Humanity Detroit, there are no extra charges from the auction house on top of the sale price.

For those interested, the base price for a '58 'Vette Convertible was US$3,591, complete with a 245-horsepower 4.6-litre V8 engine. Of the 9,168 Corvettes sold in 1958, just 510 of them were painted in this particularly attractive shade of blue, known as Regal Turquoise.

Check out a video from Speed showing the car as it crosses the auction block as well as the car's official auction description below, but not before scrolling through our image gallery of live photos from the big tent above.

Vehicle Description:

The Corvette first debuted in 1953 at GM's Motorama display at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City. It began America's love affair with the iconic sports car. In 1958, for the second consecutive year, a Corvette won both the GT-class at the 12 Hours of Sebring and the SCCA B-Production class National Championship. The base price in 1958 for the Chevy Corvette Convertible was $3,591. One lucky bidder will have the opportunity to own this 1958 Regal Turquoise Chevy Corvette owned by General Motors Chairman and CEO Dan Akerson. The Corvette received several visual and equipment changes for the 1958 model, including a longer front end, a switch to quad headlights with high and low beams, bumper exiting exhaust tips, a new steering wheel and a completely new dashboard with all the gauges mounted in front of the driver. Hood louvers and twin truck spears were exclusive to the 1958 model. The addition of seat belts as standard equipment was also new this year. Prior to this, seat belts were a dealer-installed option. This vehicle also features a 245hp, 4.6 Liter V8 engine. Chevy manufactured 9,168 units of 1958 models and only 510, or just over 5 percent, were painted the Regal Turquoise hue. One hundred percent of the winning bid will be donated by Akerson to Habitat for Humanity, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization building simple, decent, affordable housing in partnership with people in need. **ALL PROCEEDS TO BENEFIT HABITAT FOR HUMANITY** **WILL BE SOLD AT APPROXIMATELY 5:30PM ON FRIDAY, JANUARY 18, 2013** **TITLE IN TRANSIT**
