We, at Autoblog Canada, are diesel afficianodos - we're suckers for copious amounts of torque, and we enjoy the relaxed highway cruising and superior fuel efficiency of diesel mills. Naturally, we're happy campers now that Jeep has announced they will be selling their Grand Cherokee with a new 3.0 litre diesel engine under-hood.

The 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee has seen major updates inside and outside of the vehicle, and it's matured handsomely. For many Canadians, fuel efficiency is the last frontier of SUV ownership, and now that Jeep has launched their off-road capable city-slicker with an oil-burning V6, their last concern will be quelled.

The 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee's 3.0-litre turbo-diesel V6 will deliver 240 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque through all four wheels. This power will be of interest to many boat-pulling Canadians since the Grand Cherokee Diesel offers best in class towing capacity of 3,357 kilograms (7,400-pounds).

How do the all-important fuel economy numbers ring in? Owners can expect EPA 10.3 L/100 km in the city and 7.1 L/100 km on the highway. Thanks to this impressive fuel efficiency, the new Grand Cherokee has road-trip appropriate highway range of 1,175 km (730 miles) on a single tank.

The new diesel Jeep features a new eight-speed automatic transmission to help improve fuel economy and smoothness. The 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland Diesel will be priced at $65,500 in Canadian dealerships with expected availability this Spring.
