Our own Associate Editor, Mark Pereira put together a new car gallery at the end of last year, highlighting which new cars are cheapest in the Canadian market. But cheapest to purchase only tells half the story; running costs can quickly undo any savings you managed when negotiating the purchase price (not to mention a few other factors such as depreciation and reliability).

Nissan Canada took it upon themselves to compare their 2013 Sentra 1.8 SV against ten comparable cars from the competitive set to determine which car is the cheapest to own, overall. Predictably, the Sentra took top honours in the comparison, mustering the second lowest purchase price (behind the cheapest-of-the-field Volkswagen Jetta Trendline) and best fuel consumption figure - an estimated five year fuel cost of $7,482. The biggest gas-guzzler of the group is the Jetta Trendline, which is estimated to suck up $10,450 of your hard earned dollars over the next five years, thus cancelling out its low purchase price advantage.

With every passing day another automotive website (or ten) is created. Most wither and die without sufficient time, talent or traffic, but every once in a while another car-junkie site launches, and gives us an "Uh-Haa!" moment.

Twinrev.com has debuted on the world wide web, and supercar lovers everywhere have reason to rejoice. Twinrev quickly and cleverly compares supercars in side-by-side match-ups, so it's easy to get a handle on where you should spend your lottery winnings. Ferrari 458 vs Porsche 911 Turbo S? Lamborghini Aventador vs Pagani Zonda? It's all there for your reference and drool-covered consideration.

The site claims advertising revenue from manufacturers and it functions as an aggregator of sorts, pulling quotes, performance specs and stats from various blue-chip automotive authorities. Throwing supercar comparos together is good fun, and the website's ease of use and clean visual design are key hallmarks of the Twinrev brand.

Cruising the fast lane while making babies and knock'n back cold ones, that's the modus operandi of one American man by the name of Luis Briones. This 25 year-old has invented new realms of distracted driving (and you thought talking on your cell phone while driving was distracting).

This tragic tale of drinking, driving and banged-up body work unfolded when Briones ran a red light in his Ford Explorer while having sex with his female occupant. You might be mistaken into thinking that Briones got caught up in the lustful moment with his girlfriend or wife, whom he passionately loves - but you'd be wrong on that front too.

After crashing into another car upon running the red light, both Briones and his sexual partner were ejected from the vehicle. The female passenger sustained serious head injuries and needed medical attention, but instead of staying with her and seeking medical aid, the drunken sex-bandit jumped back into his Explorer and attempted to flee the scene. A concerned motorist who witnessed the commotion sprang into action and pulled the keys from Briones' vehicle before he could escape. Still, Briones was bent on fleeing the scene and took off on foot. Police later found him "with one shoe on and his shorts inside out... hiding behind a cactus?!"

Needless to say, Briones was not practicing safe sex, and serious injury, death, or unwanted pregnancy could result from such a careless automotive affair; a weird mix of risks, but driving on public roads while doing the deed is about as dangerous as it gets. Having sex in your car is an auto-enthusiast's right of passage, but you ought to leave it in 'Park' and keep alcohol out of the equation.

Ladies: this is not the type of man to bring home to mom and dad, no matter how spontaneous and free-spirited he seems to be. His previous run-ins with the law should serve to corroborate this fact - Briones was serving a probation sentence during the time of the crash.

This delinquent driver now faces charges of Driving Under the Influence (DUI), reckless driving and evading police. His female passenger has been released from hospital and has not been charged with any offence (though the office of public opinion might charge her with poor taste in men and poor dating etiquette). Attention all storm chasers: time to trade in your Humvee, dump that modified Brinks Truck and sell your custom Line-X Dominator. Based on the video below, there is clearly only one everyday vehicle capable of surviving the world's baddest tornadoes: the Ford Mustang GT. After being ripped apart by the devastating EF5 tornado on May 20 in Moore, Oklahoma, this pony car is still ready to do burnouts.

The 4th generation '99-'04 Mustang featured in the below video was thrashed by the recent Oklahoma twister, subsequently stripped of its exterior panels, roof and windows. What's left over is a frame of conviction, engine of integrity and rear diff of discipline. She may not be pretty, but this 'Stang will get you into and out of the eye of the storm.

Don't believe a car can survive the worst of Mother Nature's vengeance? Time to watch the video clip below, showing a beat-up Mustang that refuses to quit. Traditionally, the key to a man's heart has been through his stomach, or so the old wives' tale goes. But the key to a brand-spanking new Mercedes Benz G55 AMG could also unlock a man's heart - and this belief has been exercised by a Saudi Arabian woman who gifted a copy of AMG's finest ute-metal in hopes of capturing an Arabian male model's attention.

It turns out that this was a gift granted in pity - Omar Borkan Gala, the new owner of the G55 AMG, was gifted the SUV after being deported by Saudi Arabian religious police for being "too handsome." The Dubai native was visiting a festival in Riyadh, the Saudi Arabian capital, when he was approached by authorities and asked forced to leave because the religious police "feared women could fall for [him] on the grounds [that he is] too handsome." In a political quagmire, an alternative would be forcing him to wear a burka, which would not be in step with his male modeling career.

News of Gala's expulsion from the Gulf Kingdom spread quickly and about a month after the incident Gala heard a knock at the door. A new AMG product was waiting outside. "I got a Mercedes G55 for my birthday from a woman I didn't know. It came to my place, and I was told, 'Just sign and take it.' That's amazing!" Gala's words remind us why it's worth answering the door every time you hear the door-bell.

According to InTouch Gossip Weekly, Gala is fleshing out his career in the entertainment world, currently working as a poet, model and upcoming film star. Reports of Gala's surprise gift (and unfortunate deportation from Saudi Arabia) have gone viral and his personal facebook page has been inundated with messages of support from fans around the world. This should propel his career forward with roughly the same thrust as his new V8 sport utility serves up.

Aston Martin is popping the bubbly and launching a new concept car to celebrate their centenial. Aston's brightest unleashed their creative juices to create a modern sports car that harkens back to Aston Martin racers of yore. The resultant retro-styled speedster that found form is nothing short of breath-taking - particularly for any fans of the British marque.

The CC100 draws upon design cues from the Le Mans winning DBR1 race car. It's powered by a 6.0-litre V12, which is capable of propelling it to 100 km/h (62 mph) in a hair over 4 seconds. Thanks to it's light-weight carbon-fibre body and dual-clutch transmission, the CC100 is at home on the racetrack. Top speed is limited to 289 km/h (180 mph). The body is almost 4.5 metres long and more than two metres wide, including the mirrors.

The below video shows the creation of the CC100 from paper to racetrack. You'll want to watch it until the end, where you'll find hear a special treat from Aston Martin's V12 engine builders. The music soundtrack's not bad either.

There is no sweeter sound to a car enthusiast's ears than that of an exotic car or superbike revving to the fun side of the tachometer. The mechanical symphony exiting the exhaust pipes of finely tuned performance machines is nothing short of an aural treat for the driving enthusiasts among us. But, there are those among us who would rather we keep our collective tachometers near idle.

Spurred on by a citizen group in Long Beach, California, the local area police have dispatched a sign to monitor sound levels emitted by passing vehicles. The electronic sign functions much like the automated road-side speed-measuring signs that flash up an LED-lit warning showing your real-time road speed as you pass by. The sign features microphones that pick up the maximum decibel level reaching the sign, and then flash the decibel level on the LED screen.

The average vehicle emits around 55 to 60 decibels (when traveling around 60 km/h), and the officers monitoring the sign are looking out for those that strike the 70 to 75 decibel level. Those with aftermarket exhaust systems ought to shift up a couple of gears and lean up on the throttle when passing by...

The following video looks like it was produced by Jackass, but it turns out that the rider of the scooter therein did not intend to crash into a car, a van, another scooter and a truck all within the space of 30 seconds. He's just profoundly bad at riding.

Just when you think the two-wheeled carnage has finally ended, the rider of the beleaguered scooter yanks his front wheel from under the bumper of the truck he hit, and proceeds to ride through a construction site fence and into a giant concrete-walled hole. Two words: epic fail. This 'how-not-to-ride' video tutorial was inadvertently captured by a security camera overlooking a traffic junction in China.

The driver of a small Nissan pickup truck has some explaining to do after getting stuck... in a tree. Most versatile off-road trucks are found stuck in deep mud or snow, but this utilitarian beast was found stuck in an evergreen grove.

Police responded to reports of the tree-climbing truck and found it still in place, clinging to the branches about 3 metres (10 feet) above the ground. The driver was no where to be found, and the vehicle's engine and exhaust system was cold, telling police that the vehicle had been there for some time, undiscovered.

Recreating the scene, it appears the driver of the small truck was traveling at a high rate of speed, lost control and 'jumped' a large ditch, which put him on a trajectory that landed him, well... up a tree. The driver later returned to the scene during the police investigation ("Where'd I leave my wallet?") and was charged with 'hit and run' and criminal mischief citations. This unlikely tale unfolded in Portland, Oregon, USA.

Speaking of the police, an officer found himself in a similar predicament when he pulled a U-turn to make a seatbelt related traffic stop, lost control, and hit the guide-wire of a telephone pole. The front bumper of his cruiser followed the wire up the pole, leaving the Dodge police car scampering up the pole like a spooked squirrel. Thankfully, this Memphis police officer was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured in the incident - no word if the seatbelt-less driver of the car he was attempting to pull over noticed all the commotion behind him.

A 91 year old WWII veteran has called upon his decades old survival training and survived a 4-day stint lying injured in his car. Jay Ambrozia of New Port Richey, Florida was shopping at a local supermarket when he had a fall. Ambrozia broke his hip and arm in the fall, but being the trooper he is, he shrugged off the pain and limped to his car with the help of store employees. Once in his car he was able to drive home, stopping once at the side of the road when his leg went numb. He ought to have driven straight to the hospital (or perhaps been driven to the hospital by friendly local paramedics) but his unrelenting spirit of independence led him astray.

After parking his Chevy inside his garage he was overcome by pain and unable to move from the car. In an effort to beckon assistance he laid on his horn until the battery went dead and yelled at the mailman everyday, but no one came to his aid. In order to be discovered but also keep warm he kept his automated garage door open during the day, and closed it at night. Fortunately, Ambrozia had a car full of groceries from the market, so he was able to survive on the food he had just bought.

This elderly soldier kept his wits about him and counted the days by adding cookies on his dash. Four cookies later and he was finally discovered laying in his car, in severe pain (and with internal hemorrhage secondary to his broken hip). Family members commented that he's "very coherent and spunkey, he's still spunkey." Perhaps it's time family members help him to pick out a cell phone, or life alert device.

An impromptu gas-station musical erupted at a Costco gas station when TV host Tim Stack started talking to a patron of the gas station through the small ad TV above the fuel pump. Luckily for the Tonight Show with Jay Leno host, this unsuspecting customer was no ordinary man of the pump, but a soulful, fun-loving bar-tender and avid karaoke singer who was happy to play along.

Not long into the musical fossil-fuel filling, Will Sims, our favourite gas-pumper, brought his wife Monifa onto the concrete stage. The resulting duet brought other curious patrons around to see what was causing the song-and-dance commotion.

The Sims couple's zest for life and playful attitude during this spontaneous karaoke interaction so impressed Jay Leno that he decided to have both Will and Monifa on his show to perform for his live audience. We can't help but wonder if the Sims' next calling will be to write a marriage guide-book as it's abundantly clear from the video that this couple has got it right, and couldn't be happier after 12 years of marriage. Watching Monifa's interaction with her husband is downright hilarious and when she cuts to her "dance-break" it's easy to see that this fitness instructor is not to be outdone by her husband.

No one could describe 82 year-old Bernie Ecclestone as racy (he failed to qualify for both F1 races he attempted to contest back in 1958), but his daughter, Tamara, seems to have found the racy switch in the family genes. Posing for Playboy magazine, she was much obliged to bare all and turn up the sexy-meter for the family name.

Tamara Ecclestone has been dubbed 'The Diamond Heiress' by editors of Playboy and she graces the cover of the May issue. She earns her nickname not just for being heir to a multi-billion dollar inheritance, but for her affinity for diamonds. She's seen lying naked with her intimate areas covered by sparkling gems in the Playboy shoot (as pictured above).

There are seven additional racy shots of the 28-year-old with one getting back to the automotive roots of the Ecclestone name, with Tamara posing naked in a convertible driven by two maids.

"As a woman I feel you have to embrace your body and feel beautiful both inside and out," says Ecclestone. Clearly she is eager to focus on the latter.

She certainly isn't doing it for the money since Tamara's father, Bernie Ecclestone, is said to be the fourth richest man in the U.K. after amassing his wealth as Formula One's top dog (and through other astute business investments). His other daughter, Petra Ecclestone recently bought the most expensive house in the United States, which was the former home of Aaron Spelling that reportedly sold for almost US$100 million.

A Terrier puppy has developed a penchant for McDonalds fries and cuban cigars after surviving in a locked car for one month. The owner of the puppy had abandoned the furry critter in their car, which they also abandoned. The car was later towed by Kansas city parking enforcement, and the car was impounded at a city operated impound lot. The diminutive pup wasn't noticed during the tow, or impound process, and was only discovered one month later by an astute city employee who picked out the two button-eyes peeking out from a car window.

Given the long duration of automotive captivity, it is surprising that the Terrier survived. According to reports, the local Kansas weather was unseasonably cool and this no doubt contributed to the dog's survival. Impound workers reported that the dog survived on left over McDonalds and a cigar which had been left in the car.

Those who rescued the Terrier pup named her Kia - but not for the reason you may think. No, Kia was not found in a Kia, but in a Buick. So, why not pick a name from the realm of GM nomenclature? The rescuers, "couldn't find a Buick car name that sounded like a girl." We might add that it's also difficult to find a youthful Buick name. Regardless, Kia, the long-suffering K9 is responding to her name just fine.

Kansas Animal Control officers are now searching for the owner of the puppy (and car) and possible animal cruelty and neglect citations are possible.

Elton Kim probably never imagined that holding an errant driver to account after a minor parking lot skirmish would result in a high-speed hood-hugging, death-defying vigilante stunt. However, as if cut from a James Bond film, the following video shows exactly this scenario unfolding.

The story begins in Georgia, USA, when a woman backed her Ford Fusion into the Kim family's Chevrolet Avalanche. Mr Kim confronted the careless driver before she could leave the scene and demanded the woman stop her car to discuss the damages. The unknown woman, however, had other plans, and drove right at Kim - at which point he jumped onto the hood of her car to avoid being run over. The neurotic driver then sped for the highway where the following footage was captured by a concerned motorist.

Theresa Kim, wife of Mr Kim, stated that she "didn't think [the driver] wanted to hurt him, but for some reason she never stopped." We believe Mrs Kim could take a more supportive stance for her husband's sake - he was, after all, trying to look after her Chevy.

The camera work shows off the new '991' generation 911 Turbo's skin with emphases on its new, gaping air intakes, devoid of any cross elements. Active aero is also on display - the new 911 Turbo and 911 Turbo S models feature active aerodynamics at both the front and rear of the car for increased performance. The front splitter can drop lower to the pavement thus increasing front-end down-force, while the rear wing now has greater adjustment and angle. A slippery efficiency mode has both aero elements fully retracted to reduce drag and improve fuel economy.

Steven Simonar may have passed you on the highway, and you'd never have known that the driver of the pickup truck in the neighbouring lane had no arms. Simonar has been honing his driving skills sans upper limbs for the last 28 years - and he's never encountered any issues, save for the fact that he can't buckle up unassisted.

Over the course of nearly three decades this enterprising man has adapted five vehicles with a special wheel and stirrup that allow him to steer with his left foot while using the brake and accelerator pedals as normal. Simonar has managed to steer clear of accidents and traffic tickets... until now.

Last week, during a routine police spot check held by the RCMP and local Saskatoon Police Services, the officer who pulled him over noticed that he was not wearing his seatbelt. A ticket was written for $175 and Simonar states that this is the first time he's ever received such a ticket, "It never dawned on me I'd get a ticket, because I've been stopped numerous times and I've never had an issue," he said. "You just have to look once to figure it out."

Simonar is now fighting the ticket, but it's not the $175 penalty that has him most upset. During the course of the spot check he claims that one of the officers said, "Well if he can't put his seatbelt on maybe he shouldn't be driving." While road safety must take precedence, the alleged statement does sound insensitive to Simonar's plight. In the end, the courts will decide, but we must acknowledge Simonar for his determination and grit to keep driving despite his significant handicap.

Political correctness can be a little over-rated at times and we understand that once in a while some people want to break free from their linguistic filter. The truck for sale is a 5-speed manual, 1993 Nissan D21 light-duty pickup (as pictured above - though purportedly in much worse shape) with 285,000 kilometres on the odometer.
