New Tom Cruise Jack Reacher trailer features Chevelle SS

Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher in busted-up Chevrolet Chevelle SS

Lee Child's novels about the fictional former military MP Jack Reacher are ready to hit the odeon, and they'll be coming with Tom Cruise as the title character. We should know by now better than to compare movies to their source books, and this looks like another reason not to: the literary Reacher is six-foot, five-inch, 210-250 pounds, the 50-year-old Cruise... isn't. Reacher likes silence, Cruise likes the pithy line; Reacher isn't a good runner, Cruise will undoubtedly showcase his sprinting skills.

One difference that might work out for us, though, is that whereas Jack Reacher doesn't have a driver's license and isn't a very good driver in the books – he hitchhikes or takes a bus to the action, mostly – Cruise's take drives a sweetly red Chevrolet Chevelle SS, and judging by this just-released trailer, he does so through anything and anyone.

Katie Homes would have made a better Reacher.

He was great, I think! I love those kind of whip ass movies. That Chevy SS was a real good costar! Robert Duval played his usual role of the best that ever was at whatever, with his country accent. The lawyer's role was not one you will applaud but she's cute. Even though I had the plot figured after a couple of scenes I enjoyed the ride. The action was hot and fun to watch. The sound of that old muscle car engine roaring for the entire chase scene was the coolest part of the whole movie. I was raised in the south when those cars were boss and you could buy that car orginnally for $3000.00. I think Darrell Waldrop has a story about arriving at his wifes' parents house for their first date with the cops on his tail driving such at car!
