Volkswagen Golf R Cabriolet

Fans of convertibles might want to take notice of Volkswagen over the coming year or so. In addition to the diesel-powered Beetle TDI Convertible, the new Golf Cabriolet will spawn some exciting variants itself including the GTI Cabrio unveiled earlier this year in Geneva and the more powerful Golf R Cabrio, which VW first showed off in concept form at its annual GTI get-together at Lake Wörthersee to gauge public interest. We still aren't even sure if we'll be getting the standard version of the Golf Cabrio here in North America, but what isn't there to love about the idea of a small and nimble droptop with 265 horsepower?

Well that question seems to have been answered with our first look at the production version of the car in a new video. Mixed in with plenty of driving shots, we can see that there have been a few tweaks from concept to production form including the latter losing the racing-style seats and the center-mounted dual exhaust outlets. Everything else appears to be carried over, such as the aggressive front fascia, stylish 19-inch wheels and lowered suspension. Initial performance specs for the car include a top speed of 250 kilometres per hour (155 miles per hour) to go with a 0-60 (0-96 km/h) time of under six seconds.

There's no new news to report about the car, but check out the video of the car in action below.
