2014 Aston Martin Vanquish Volante - front three-quarter view, blue

Behold the 2014 Aston Martin Vanquish Volante in all its convertible glory. Like its hard top twin, the convertible Vanquish boasts a 5.9-litre V12 engine with 565 horsepower and 457 pound-feet of torque. That thrust is good enough to push the car to a top speed of 295 kilometres per hour (183 miles per hour), and Aston Martin says the 2014 Vanquish Volante is the first of the company's convertibles to bow with body panels comprised entirely of carbon fibre. It also offers the stiffest body structure in the history of the automaker's droptop efforts.

The machine's power three-layer top can be put up or down at speeds of up to 48 km/h (30 mph) and can do its dance in around 14 seconds. Interestingly, designers went with a full-length windshield, which runs directly up to the cloth top. there is no sheetmetal (or in this case, carbon fibre) header between the glass and the roof. Very cool.

A six-speed automatic transmission handles shifting duties and a new set of springs and dampers help cope with altered dynamics of the convertible. Aston Martin claims the 2014 Vanquish Volante offers up a weight distribution of 51:49, and a set of carbon-ceramic brakes help bring the whole party down from speed. If you want one, get ready to shell out at least close to $300,000 for the pleasure. Deliveries are set to begin early next year. Squirrelling Away In Motown With British Royalty

As far as unexpected encounters with wild animals go, squirrels don't normally rate. The furry little nut-smugglers are omnipresent fixtures in my neck of the woods - literally - so normally a chance meeting doesn't warrant caution the way a bear or even an ornery raccoon might. But one's list of priorities can't help but change a bit at 280 kilometres per hour (175 miles per hour). That was exactly the case when I drove this Aston Martin's predecessor, the DBS, a few years ago.

I was hammering around a closed course - Ford's Romeo proving grounds - on the company's high-banked track, 40 km/h (25 mph) shy of the double ton, when a little red dot appeared on the surface of the track, far up the straight. It was a squirrel, which, lacking the good sense not to be on the track at that particular moment, was at least smart enough to flatten itself into a pancake (perhaps it heard the Aston's mighty V12 closing in). I prayed it wouldn't dart from its adjacent lane into mine, because at my closing speed, I figured I wouldn't have time to retaliate. Naturally, the kamikaze rodent skittered on its stomach directly into my trajectory at the last minute, leaving me no choice but to issue a critical hair's breadth correction at the wheel. Roadkill manufacturing is normally a momentary wince-inducing affair - a grimace, a quick appeal for the universe's forgiveness - and then on with one's day. Yet in a car as low as an Aston Martin, at the velocity I was traveling, a bit of fur flying and battered karma would've been the least of my concerns.

The squirrel, the DBS and I all survived to fight another day, and that 280 km/h (175-mph) run still stands as my own personal v-max. The Aston's high-speed stability and steering saved my bacon that morning, but in truth, I wasn't that impressed with the car overall. So it was with some consternation that I took possession of this 2014 Aston Martin Vanquish, its replacement killer.

Aston Martin Rapide station wagon one-off as seen in the Bertone Jet 2+2 concept - Live reveal at 2013 Geneva Motor Show

Back in March at the Geneva Motor Show, we had all manner of shiny new baubles trying to distract us from the Bertone Jet 2+2, a one-off from the Italian design house that basically amounted to an Aston Martin Rapide wagon. Yet we still couldn't take our eyes off the car and mutter a few "what ifs." The showcar was conceived as a single vehicle at the behest of one of Bertone's well-heeled customers, but what if the one-off wasn't so one-off? Could an estate conversion like this mount a successful small production run?

According to Autocar, the answer is a riff on "Definitely. Maybe." The British magazine says that Aston Martin and Bertone want to do the deed and are investigating a "small-scale production run," but how small remains anyone's guess. Autocar hypothesizes that if fewer than 10 cars are made, they will be built in Turin near Bertone's headquarters. If the run is larger, however, production would likely be at Aston's home facilities in Gaydon. Of course, there are legal hoops to jump through, naming concerns, and all other manner of nettles to negotiate before the Jet 2+2 can transition into production reality.

So... how much for this still-theoretical, limited-edition couture-n'-kiddie-hauler? Your guess is as good as ours, but the donor Rapide starts above $200,000, and one has to assume that such limited volume would confer a much higher price on the Jet's flanks. Whether that means that it could be costlier than the nearly US$300,000 Vanquish remains to be seen.

Aston Martin V12 Vantage S in yellow - front three-quarter view

This is the "something very fast" that Aston Martin teased last week. With a brief to bring "race car performance and technology to the open road," the Gaydon firm introduces the new V12 Vantage S that makes changes throughout compared to the V12 Vantage it replaces.

The heart of the matter is the new AM28 engine, a more evolved species of the 6.0-litre V12 that incorporates features like CNC-machined combustion chambers and hollow camshafts. Power output is 565 horsepower, a healthy 50-horse bump over the outgoing coupe, and 475 pound-feet of torque, a boost of 37 lb-ft. Acceleration from 0-60 miles per hour (0-96 km.h) is expected to come before the four-second mark (down from 4.2 seconds) and the top speed crosses the double-ton to 330 km/h (205 mph), up from 305 km/h (190 mph). It spits out its note through an exhaust adapted from the One-77 and it is now the fastest car Aston Martin makes. In fact, save for the aforementioned One-77, it's the fastest road car in the company's history.

Shifting all that power to the wheels is a seven-speed automated manual transmission. Further honed from its current use in the V8 Vantage S (it's also the 'box from Aston Martin's FIA GT race cars), it gains a gear over the six-speed in the V12 Vantage yet is 25 kilograms (55 pounds) lighter.

Three-stage adaptive damping confers Normal, Sport and Track modes to the suspension settings and alters the amount of power-assist for the steering. A second, independent Sport setting controls gear selection, throttle response and exhaust note.

Aesthetically, aluminum grille vanes are swapped for carbon fiber or titanium silver mesh inside a grille shell inspired by the CC100 Speedster concept, there are new ten-spoke, 19-inch alloys, the roof goes black and this is the first time customers can spec black pedals.

Pricing hasn't been divulged, but something near $200,000 should get the dealer's attention when it goes on sale. Now that your piggy bank has a reason to die, there's a press release below with more tidbits.

Aston Martin CC100 Speedster

Creations like the Aston Martin CC100 Speedster aren't meant to be static objects. Unfortunately, that's how we experience concepts like this luscious Aston Martin all too often. Fortunately, one YouTube user managed to hear the CC100 clear its throat at this weekend's Villa d'Este Concorso in Italy. The mammoth V12 under the concept's long hood sounds appropriately menacing, barking and popping in every shade of ferocious. As you may recollect, the 6.0-litre engine can propel the topless Speedster to 290 km/h (180 miles per hour) after cracking off a four-second 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) dash. Sounds like a party to us.

Aston Martin is popping the bubbly and launching a new concept car to celebrate their centenial. Aston's brightest unleashed their creative juices to create a modern sports car that harkens back to Aston Martin racers of yore. The resultant retro-styled speedster that found form is nothing short of breath-taking - particularly for any fans of the British marque.

The CC100 draws upon design cues from the Le Mans winning DBR1 race car. It's powered by a 6.0-litre V12, which is capable of propelling it to 100 km/h (62 mph) in a hair over 4 seconds. Thanks to it's light-weight carbon-fibre body and dual-clutch transmission, the CC100 is at home on the racetrack. Top speed is limited to 289 km/h (180 mph). The body is almost 4.5 metres long and more than two metres wide, including the mirrors.

The below video shows the creation of the CC100 from paper to racetrack. You'll want to watch it until the end, where you'll find hear a special treat from Aston Martin's V12 engine builders. The music soundtrack's not bad either.

Aston Martin shadowy teaser - video screencap

Aston Martin has released a short teaser video entitled Coming Soon that features the image above near its close. Based on the profile and the hood intakes, the short money is on this being the V12 Vantage S, since the standard model has yet to earn the addition of the 19th letter of the alphabet. It looks like there might also be a new roof treatment on the car in the video, but that could merely be a trick of the light.

It probably won't be long before we get another teaser or the genuine article revealed. For now, there's the video below provided for your sleuthing.

Daimler and Aston Martin have been "in discussions" over various matters going back at least five years, when an engine-supply deal from the Germans to the Brits turned into rumours of Daimler looking to buy a piece of Aston Martin. Neither the engines nor the company stake ever changed hands, but three years later they were talking about trying a relationship again, this time in the large luxury sedan segment - Daimler would get help with Maybach, Aston Martin would get help with the Lagonda revival. That also came to nothing.

Late last year, when Investment Dar offloaded a share of its stake in Aston Martin to Anglo-Italian equity house Investindustrial, part of the allure was that Investindustrial said it would work to unite Aston Martin with technology and components from AMG. So the talks have begun again.

Although nothing's come of it yet, Bloomberg reports that the English and the Germans have opened dialogue "on supply and technical-cooperation agreements." In November 2012, Investindustrial mentioned getting engines, gearboxes and other technology from AMG - a brand it got to know when it owned Ducati. A tie-up would also help indie player Aston Martin rein in development costs. Daimler is said to be Investindustrial's preferred partner, but the latest chapter has only just begun. We're sure they hope it won't take another five years to get something closed with someone.

While many of us may never have the chance, or be willing to part with the hundreds of thousands of dollars required to own our own supercar, the experience of driving a supercar for the first time is incredibly memorable, and there is no surprise that it is something that is on the bucket list of millions of car enthusiasts around the globe. The process for supercar rental isn't as complex as one may think, however it's a bit more of a process than booking your average budget rental car. Pricing can range from roughly $800 to $2,500 per day, so you're best to map out as much of your driving as you can. There are now supercar rental companies in many major cities, but the last thing you want to do is waste valuable hours on bad city traffic so we strongly recommend picking a destination for your drive.

Lou La Vie out of Miami will drop your rental to your requested destination, while other companies like Exotics Racing in Las Vegas have direct access to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway and offer rental packages as brief as $249 for 5 laps in a Mercedes-Benz SLS. If you're wanting to go further afield, there are a few companies that will offer up rentals to challenge the dreaded Nurburgring if you are able to get there before it closes. If you desire a warmer climate, Ascari Race Resort offers driving experience days on their private track in Malaga, Spain with full instruction.

Whether you go local or abroad, one thing is certain you will never forget or regret your first experience in a supercar. The only advice we can offer is to be prepared to have any concept of speed you previously had to be shattered.

In what must have looked and sounded to motorists on the M6 like an invasion of The Swarm, a parade of 50 enthusiast gems leaving a charity event were caught shooting down the on-ramp and merging into traffic. There were plenty of Porsches joining the 959 and Ducktail above, Aston Martins going back to the badboy V8 of the last millennium, a Ferrari Testarossa, a TVR and numerous other Easter eggs.

There were not, however, plenty of turn signals, with someone counting just five among the fifty engaging in proper use of the blinker. One reason put forth for that is the same reason we're posting this amazing video, which is from last Summer, below: "because supercar." Enjoy.

Dubai Police Aston Martin One-77

GulfNews.com reports the Dubai Police will add even more exotic cars to its fleet of law enforcement vehicles. As you may recall, the city's police department already has a Ferrari FF and a Lamborghini Aventador. Now it looks as if officers will be able to patrol the streets in an Aston Martin One-77 Q-Series and a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG. An undefined Bentley will also join the the fleet in the near future. Right now, the One-77 is on display at the Arabian Travel Market for tourists to enjoy. So, why does a police department need a one-of-seven ultra exotic like the $3 million One-77 Q-Series?

While speaking with GulfNews.com, Dubai Police Chief Lt Gen Dahi Khalfan Al Tamim said that the public's reaction and enthusiasm for the force's Aventador convinced him to add other exotics to the stable. The cars will be used for "road security." "These sports cars will not be roaring and chasing speeding motorists," he said.

Aston Martin Hydrogen Rapide S Race Car

Aston Martin has announced it will both debut and campaign a hydrogen-powered Rapide S at this year's ADAC Zurich 24 Hours of Nürburgring. The company wants to be the first to manage a zero carbon dioxide emission lap in mainstream racing, and the racecar should be the first hydrogen-powered machine to compete in an international event. The Hybrid Hydrogen Rapide S will continue to use a twin-turbocharged 6.0-litre V12 engine for propulsion, though the prototype engine can be fed on either pure gasoline, pure hydrogen or any combination of the two.

In order to do so, Aston Martin had to install a hydrogen fuel rail, tanks and an entirely separate engine management system. The tanks themselves are hewn from ultra-high-strength carbon fibre. The four vessels can hold around 3.5 kg (7.7 pounds) of hydrogen at 350 bar (5,076 pounds per square inch) of pressure. Two get stashed next to the driver while the other two reside in the car's trunk. Check out the full press release below for more information.

Three years ago, almost to the day, we slid behind the wheel of the all-new Aston Martin Rapide for the very first time. After unabashedly calling it "the world's best-looking four-door sedan" - a statement that is as accurate today as it was in 2010 - we piloted the Aston Martin on a meandering route from Miami to our final destination in Palm Beach.

Our conclusion, at the end of a very long day, was that British automaker had built a peerless sedan cleverly disguised as a coupe, and it offered more accommodation and utility than anything else in the automaker's two-door lineup. With that as its primary mission objective, it excelled. However, in terms of overall performance, our realization was that it fell short.

Aston Martin Vanquish Centenary Edition

The traditional gift, if someone has the longevity to celebrate a 100th anniversary of... well, anything, really, is a 10-carat diamond. In lieu of that, we're going to recommend one of these Aston Martin Vanquish Centenary Edition machines. Bertone Jet 2+2 - front three-quarter view, Geneva Motor Show premiere

Leave it to Bertone to take a stab at improving the look of the Aston Martin Rapide. The coachbuilder may have done just that with its Jet 2+2 shooting brake unveiled here at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. Using the sexy Aston four-door as a basis, the coachbuilder worked the Aston's rear quarters and lifted the roof into a proper hatch, resulting in a machine with plenty of cargo space out back (though rear seat room doesn't appear to be much better than the production sedan). An LED span joins the vehicle's two taillights, and the design looks far more cohesive than the original renderings led us to believe.

An unnamed collector commissioned the one-off build, and Bertone is using the longroof to mark the 60th anniversary of the company's first partnership with Aston Martin. We couldn't think of a better way to commemorate the date. The stock 6.0-litre V12 remains unsullied, cranking out 476 horsepower, though Bertone has given the interior a once-over with unique wood, glazed aluminum and two leather colors specified by the individual who commissioned the car. 2014 Aston Martin Rapide S

We've never really thought of the Aston Martin Rapide as being an old car in need of an update, but since the gorgeous sedan has, in fact, been around since 2010, we suppose a tidy freshening is in order. Here at the Geneva Motor Show, Aston is showing off the new Rapide S, which adds minor styling tweaks and a bit more oomph to the rakish four-door package. But don't be fooled, the S isn't just a trim-and-tape up-do - it wholly replaces the outgoing Rapide.

That's fine with us, since the new car improves upon an already exceptional package. The big sedan's V12 gets a power injection to the tune of 80 horsepower and 14 pound-feet of torque, bringing the totals up to 550 and 457, respectively. This means the Rapide S can hit 60 miles per hour in 4.7 seconds compared to the outgoing car's 5.1, on its way to a top speed of 305 km/h. Woosh.

Visual changes for the new S model include a reworked front fascia with a one-piece grille, new 20-inch wheels, a slightly redesigned rear fascia, and a carbon fibre exterior pack that adds a bit of design differentiation to some of the car's outside details. Pricing hasn't been announced just yet, but expect this Aston to come in around the $200,000 mark. Scroll down for the full details in the press blast.

Way back in 2004 Bertone created a one-off concept called the Bertone Jet 2, a shooting brake based on the Aston Martin Vanquish. For this year's Geneva Motor Show the Italian styling house is doing it again, but this time it has used the Rapide to create the Jet 2+2. Employing a model whose lines were more readily made for shooting brake adaptation has resulted in a vehicle that we find far better looking than its predecessor.

There's a 470-horsepower V12 under the hood, a bespoke interior with two-tone leather, a stretched and heightened rear quarter for more headroom and luggage room, and fold-flat rear seats. An LED strip connects the taillights across the wide tailgate.

An unnamed client commissioned the build, and it also happens to be another candle on Aston Martin's centenary birthday cake as well as commemoration of the sixty years since Bertone and Aston Martin first worked together. It will take the floor in Geneva along with the Rapide S.

We've seen the upcoming Aston Martin Vanquish Volante in spy photography before, but the car has never been shot while sitting so cooperatively still as it does for this latest set of images.

Most of the bulky camouflage has been removed from the car's flanks in these images too, with masking really only apparent on the rear fascia of the supercar, and snow obscuring the valences, of course. All in, it's another very cautious update to the signature Aston styling, albeit one the keeps the car among the most sexy convertibles on the planet.

Expect that the Vanquish Volante will come to town with Aston's 6.0-litre V12 engine under the hood, probably making something like 565 horsepower and 457 pound-feet of torque, if earlier leaked reports are to be believed.

Toronto-based dealership group Pfaff Automotive Partners has recently announced plans for a significant performance and supercar showcase at this year's Canadian International Auto Show (CIAS). Pfaff is one of Ontario's leading Porsche, Audi and Volkswagen dealers and the proprietor of Canada's only McLaren dealership, which we covered the grand opening of last spring. Pair this with their extensive Pfaff Tuning division and you can bet on some real gems to appear at the Toronto Auto Show for 2013.

Pfaff Tuning is definitely leveraging their tuning projects to draw some attention at CIAS. The company has prepped a McLaren 12C, an '09 Aston Martin DBS and a 2013 Porsche 991 with suspension upgrades and ADV1 wheels, which will sit alongside a healthy dose of their 2013 Porsche lineup. With all of these cars pushing in excess of 400 hp from the factory; 616 hp from a mere 3.8L V8 in the case of the McLaren, it's not surprising the focus in building these projects was on handling rather than power.

There will also be a dedicated McLaren booth on hand for some required drooling over the MP4-12C both the coupe and the Spider that we saw unveiled at the Ritz Carlton. If you haven't been able to get a look at the coupe yet there should be a bit more breathing room at the booth this year. Of course this isn't quite as exciting as the prospect of seeing the highly anticipated McLaren P1 at this year's Geneva Auto Show but we'll take what we can get here at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

One surprise coming from the Pfaff group is an appearance of their upcoming 2013 GT3 Cup car. The Pfaff Castrol Motorsports wrapped up the 2012 GT3 Cup Challenge Canada season on a high note taking 1st place in both Platinum and Gold Classes, and is expected to to be equally competitive with the new 991.
