Tucked in the middle of a very long business update press release, Spyker has confirmed that it will unveil a topless version of the B6 Venator Concept that we first saw in coupe form at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year. A specific launch timeframe has not been given, other than the ultra-vague "later this year," but we'll bet our bottom dollar that the open-top B6 will show its face at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September.

Spyker states that the launch of the B6 marks "the beginning of a new era for the brand, one that will include a significant increase in production." The B6 will go into production in 2014, with the first cars being allocated for Europe, the Middle East, Asia Pacific and India. Production of North American-spec models will kick off in the fall of 2014.

We don't imagine the specs will change from the coupe, meaning the mid-mounted V6 with 375 horsepower should still be offered in the Spyder. A key factor to the coupe's performance is lightness (the whole package weighs in at just 1,406 kg (3,100 pounds)), and while we don't imagine the Spyder will be a porker, some sort of folding top mechanism and its associated bracing will no doubt add weight.

We'll keep our ear to the ground for more details before the car's unveiling later this year. For now, scroll down for a full business update in Spyker's press release, then be sure to watch the video reveal of the B6 Venator concept at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show.

When the Lamborghini Veneno was introduced at the Geneva Motor Show, there were those who connected dots from it to the Lamborghini Pregunta concept from 1998, and also to the Pagani Zonda that arrived one year later. Near the end of the turmoil that was Lamborghini's business through the mid-nineties, an order was placed by the French Carrosserie Heuliez for a one-off concept car that was "new, original and impossible to confuse with any other car's shapes," that would be built on a Diablo chassis. The result was the Pregunta.

It was an aerospace-influenced supercar with carbon fibre bodywork, a 530-horsepower V12 and a claimed 333 km/h (207 mph) top speed. It employed rear-wheel drive instead of the Diablo's all-wheel drive, was coated in the same paint used on the French military's Dassault Rafale fighter jet and had fibre optic lighting, rear-view cameras and a GPS system. It was shown to the world at the 1998 Paris Motor Show, and again at the 1999 Geneva Motor Show.

Thought to be the last concept built on a Lamborghini body before Audi bought the company in 1998, AutoDrome, a French specialist in vintage exotics, has the Pregunta for sale for 1.6 million euros ($2,138,000 CAD). You can watch it hit the runway with a Rafale in the video below, then give AutoDrome a call if you're interested.

Filed under: Luxury, Off-Road, Convertible, Europe, Land Rover, UK, Concept Cars, Geneva Motor Show, Geneva Auto Show

From the time when all we had were rumours of a Range Rover Evoque convertible, to the grainy spy shots of said topless SUV in some English alley, to the time it rolled out on the floor of the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, nothing could keep people from asking, "Is this really happening?"

To be fair, there were a number who asked in anticipation, enthused about the prospect of getting both a commanding driving position and wide open sky in a more toothsome package than the Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet. Nevertheless, the number wasn't enough to recommend the concept for production: A report in Car and Driver says the prospects aren't "as bright as we were led to believe when the crossover cabrio debuted," and that instead an Evoque with a panoramic roof that opens is a better bet.

Elsewhere in the rapidly evolving Land Rover line-up, platform harmonization and more <strike>cowbell</strike> aluminum is the way forward. From the recent use of four platforms supporting six vehicles, there will soon be only two: the EUCD architecture for the LR2 and Evoque; all else will be built on a modified version of the D7 platform created for the new Range Rover. That puts not only variants like the Chinese-market long-wheelbase Range Rover in the aluminum game, but also models like the next Defender and LR4. That latter model is expected to bow next year, the Defender might need more time while the design department moves on from the DC100, which wasn't warmly received.

Honda showed off its Civic Tourer concept at the Geneva Motor Show in March, and at that time, we were told that a production version would be coming to market in the very near future. Obviously, the sleek lines of the concept car will be dumbed down slightly for consumers, but that doesn't mean the Civic wagon will be a bland machine. The Euro-spec Civic's angular front end looks like it will blend nicely with the rakish rump that we saw on the concept.

Our sources suggest that not only will the Civic Tourer be a class-leader in terms of cargo capacity, but it will likely be a pretty engaging car from behind the wheel, as well. Honda is hoping that the Tourer will account for roughly 20 per cent of all European Civic sales after it goes on sale.

Expect to see the production car debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September, with the first customers taking delivery in early 2014. In the meantime, have a look at the camouflaged swoopy wagon from all angles in our gallery above.

At its recent Geneva Motor Show unveiling, we couldn't help but spend a good long time gawking at the new LaFerrari supercar. It isn't just that it's the newest top-line Ferrari, or even that it picks up where the Enzo left off - it's just that there's so much to look at, from the ductwork in its long nose to the delicate artistry of its sideview mirrors. There's so much aerodynamic wizardry at play on every surface that you just want to pick it up in your hand and take a closer look every which way - even underneath.

Sadly that's not possible, but we may just have the next best thing. Autoblog reader Giorgio has come up with this clever interactive 3D model of the LaFerrari, and we think it's neat enough that you might want to take a look - check it out by scrolling below. And don't forget - we love featuring what our car-crazed readers are up to, including here or on our Facebook page, so keep those tips coming.

Filed under: Car Buying, Canada, Mini, USA, Geneva Motor Show, Geneva Auto Show

The light commercial vehicle market has exploded in recent years. With a too-large full-size van no longer the only option for small businesses looking for an enclosed cargo carrier, options like the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, Ford Transit Connect and now this, the Mini Clubvan, are available to suit every size need.

Unveiled at last year's Geneva Motor Show, the Clubvan will soon be on sale here in North America and we finally have details about what that transaction will cost you. Motoring File reports that the Clubvan's price will be US$25,985 south of the boarder, which includes the so-called "chicken tax" and a US$700 destination and handling charge. What does this mean in Canadian pricing? We're waiting to receive official Canadian pricing from Mini Canada, but to give a rough ball park, expect the Clubvan to call for mid to high 20K when it hails on our shores.

Other questions that were answered include whether or not the Clubvan can be ordered as a Cooper S or even John Cooper Works model, and the answer is no (why do you need to deliver cakes that fast anyway?). Also, Mini has confirmed you can't take the shortcut of creating your own Clubvan by purchasing a standard Clubman and removing the rear seats. The factory Clubvan features steel side panels instead of vinyl coverings over the rear windows, as well as a fully flat load floor and a safety cage protecting front seat occupants.

The Clubvan's price slots in just above the US$25,100 Clubman Cooper S model (a standard Clubman starts at US$21,400). It has a payload capacity of 500 kg (1,102 pounds) and will consume about 860 litres (30.37 cubic-feet) of stuff in its cargo area, which features six attachment loops and is fitted with 12-volt sockets. The Clubvan, of course, also features the Clubman's unique arrangement of five doors that includes a mini front-hinged door behind the front passenger's door, and two side-hinged vertical doors in the rear.
Mini Clubvan ready for boutique chic delivery duty, affordable for small businesses originally appeared on Autoblog Canada on Sat, 30 Mar 2013 10:00:00 EST.
Ferrari apparently worked through nine design concepts for its LaFerrari supercar recently shown at the Geneva Motor Show, and has put two of them on display at its museum in Maranello, Italy. Both from 2011, the Manta (pictured) is harder edged and looks closest to the finished product.

The other, the Tensostruttura, is much more fluid and looks like it probably came from the past or the future, not so much the present. You can check them both out in the videos below and register your take on what might have been in our comment section.

At just about any other auto show, Pininfarina's Sergio Roadster would've been the uncontested showstopper - but at the Geneva Motor Show, where supercar reveals stack up like cordwood and there are plenty of coachbuilt classics-to-be, the Sergio was merely stunning.

But its beauty shouldn't be overlooked, and apparently it hasn't been - Pininfarina is seriously considering a very limited run of the roofless, windshield-free sports car. With just five or six examples in the possible production run, the Ferrari 458 Spider-based barchetta could fetch some three million euros. That's according to CEO Silvio Angori, who spoke with Automotive News Europe. At the time the Sergio was introduced, we had heard that Pininfarina was mulling production, but this is the first time we've had even rough numbers assigned to the car.

The Sergio's aesthetic success hinges quite a bit on the roll bar element, which also serves as a rear spoiler, and it's quite low, which could pose production challenges. If sold as designed, European law would mandate that helmets be worn whenever it's driven on public roads. Apparently, Pininfarina is aware that plutocrats tend to not want "helmet hair" when popping down to the shops or going out for dinner, so a small windshield could be added to make the car more palatable for actual road use.

CAR reports Maserati may benefit from the introduction of Enzo-succeeding Ferrari LaFerrari (shown below). According to unnamed parties, Maserati is keen to create a successor for the MC12 (above) based on the bones of the new Ferrari.

Details are about as scarce as they come, but CAR reckons Maserati has a few options when it comes to building its own supercar. Those include using the suspension, chassis and electrical systems of the Ferrari but with a unique carbon-fibre body and without the LaFerrari's hybrid system. The new take on the MC12 could use a detuned version of the 6.3 litre V12 from the LaFerrari or stick a quad-turbo 3.8-litre V8 behind the front seats.

The latter option could see the next MC12 yield up to 900 horsepower, putting it within reach of its cousin as well as hardware like the McLaren P1. Of course, all of this - including our fanciful name in the headline - is just speculation for the time being. CAR says that if the machine makes its way to production, it would could cost well over US$1.3 million.

If you thought the recently unveiled Spyker B6 Venator held a few familiar lines, you aren't alone. The keen-eyed crew at AutoBild noticed the new Swedish sportscar looks an awful lot like the new defunct Artega GT. The German manufacturer went bankrupt last year and may have sold off the GT platform to pay off its debts. Given the fact that the B6 Venator cropped up fairly quickly, critics assumed Spyker grabbed the machine's platform from some outside source rather than build the car's bones in house. Putting two and two together doesn't take a sleuth, but Spyker is remaining tight-lipped about the situation.

Autoblog reached out to Spyker for a comment, but company spokesperson Ali Gogarty simply said, "I apologize that I can't be more help, but at this time it is just too early to comment on any specific details beyond what is in our press release."

That's pretty far from an outright denial, but it's also well short of a confirmation, too. The similarities between the B6 Venator and the Artega GT could be more than just skin deep, however. Both creations make use of a V6 engine mounted amidships, and while Spyker has yet to say where the six-cylinder engine in the B6 hails from, Artega used Volkswagen powerplants.

This year's Geneva Motor Show served as the launch platform for three of the world's latest and greatest supercars. The Italians brought us the Lamborghini Veneno and the Ferrari LaFerrari, while the British unveiled the production version of the McLaren P1.

To put the three in better perspective - as if any of us will ever fully comprehend a trio of million dollar coupes - the Aussies at Motoring.com built an infographic (click above to enlarge) that outlines what makes each of these cars so spectacular. Using unique colours to represent each of the vehicles, the team put together a variety of charts that focus on vital statistics, pricing, total production run and other parameters all designed to ease the process of digesting an overabundance of exotic goodness.

Kia is looking to inject a bit more performance life into its brand, and according to Auto Express, the company is looking at creating sporty models based on two of its recent concept cars, the GT four-door from the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show and the Provo hybrid hatchback that debuted in Geneva last week.

"The GT is close to being approved and going into production, but, as with all our cars, they have to be developed on a sound financial footing," Benny Oeyen, Kia Europe's VP of marketing and product planning, told Auto Express. When it debuted, the GT four-door was powered by a turbocharged 3.3 litre V6, reportedly good for 389 horsepower and 394 pound-feet of torque, mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

The Provo, on the other hand, could stand as a sort of halo car for the company's B-segment offerings. It would ride on the same front-wheel-drive platform as the Rio compact, though Kia says it's eager to keep the concept's gasoline-electric powertrain intact. "Our brand is currently rational, but there's space for a B-coupe," says Oeyen. Of course, the company would indeed have to look at different naming possibilities for its B-segment coupe, since the Provo is already stirring up some controversy.

Kia has not disclosed any sort of timeline for when the cars may officially get the green light or when they would arrive in production form. From where we sit, some sporty Kias sound good to us, and if anything, the GT and Provo concepts certainly seem like promising building blocks for new products.

A little birdie spoke with Porsche executives at the recent Geneva Motor Show and told us that there is hope for a third pedal in Porsche's 991 generation of GT3 cars. Please bear in mind that this is second hand far-flung rumour material - but you've gotta have faith, right?

Our source tells us that in conversation with Porsche execs he warned them of the "$#!+ storm that awaits them" due to their abolishment of the manual 911 GT3; the reply was heartening, "There will most likely be a manual in the GT3 RS, and no one is ruling out a late introduction of a manual on the GT3."

True, Porsche's PDK dual-clutch transmission is brilliant - perhaps the best of the bunch - but sometimes you want to stir the soul of your 911 with a manual shifter. We've already heard some backlash from current 997 generation 911 GT3 owners, and interestingly enough - it appears that 997 generation GT3s have gone up in value in the used exotic market with the reveal of the all-new PDK-only GT3.

Porsche launched the world's first 7-speed manual transmission in their new 991 generation 911 (Corvette followed suit shortly thereafter with their own 7-speed manual Vette), and until now every 911 was available with a manual. As it turns out, many parts are shared between the 7-speed manual and 7-speed PDK - click through to learn just how closely related these two transmissions are, then be sure to let your left foot have its say in our poll.
Continue reading Porsche 911 GT3 and GT3 RS to have manual option?

Porsche 911 GT3 and GT3 RS to have manual option? originally appeared on Autoblog Canada on Tue, 12 Mar 2013 11:30:00 EST.
Fresh off the heels of the Geneva Auto Show Porsche has released a creative video showing their hotly anticipated 911 GT3 in action. The video was shot on a racetrack, but has a bit of digital media added in to deliver a video-game like experience.

Most curious are the Canada geese that make a cameo at 1:29 seconds into the video; thanks Porsche, for showing us some love.

The all-new Porsche 911 GT3 is designed with one purpose in mind: to go 'round racetracks as quickly as technologically possible. Of course, that could be said of all 911s, but the GT3 makes a few sacrifices to achieve faster lap times. The spring rates are higher, for example, so ride comfort is sacrificed. The car also rides lower and sits wider, so driving it through tight city traffic is a little more nerve-racking whilst being mindful of paint-swapping with the Smart car beside you.

We've returned from a very busy week in Switzerland, and in going back over all of our stories from the Geneva Motor Show, our editors have gathered up their personal favourite debuts from the European expo.

The wonderful thing about the Geneva show is just how wide of an array of vehicles are on display - everything from funny little one-off EVs to the most exotic of supercars to, well, truly beautiful displays of coachbuilding. And because of that, this list of our editors' favourites might not be as predictable as you think.

But we don't want to give anything away just yet. Scroll down to have a look at our team's favourites from Geneva.
Continue reading Editors' Choice: Top Five 2013 Geneva Motor Show Debuts

Editors' Choice: Top Five 2013 Geneva Motor Show Debuts originally appeared on Autoblog Canada on Fri, 08 Mar 2013 13:30:00 EST.
Would you Rather is a juvenile game we remember playing as kids, and it always seemed to turn into an automotive shopping debate. The Lamborghini Veneno unveiled at Geneva Motor Show has us dusting off the old game-play to figure out what we would do with our €3-million Euros ($4.2 million Canadian dollars) at current exchange rates when our bank account finally spills over.

Click through our gallery to take a look at your options, and then let us know what supercars you'll spend your $4.2M on (even if it's imaginary money) by scrolling down to our poll below.
Continue reading Would you rather: one Lamborghini Veneno or five other supercars?

Would you rather: one Lamborghini Veneno or five other supercars? originally appeared on Autoblog Canada on Fri, 08 Mar 2013 10:30:00 EST.
The new B6 Venator wasn't the only vehicle on display at the Spyker booth at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. The company still has its C8 Aileron on offer, and Road & Track has word of a potential powerplant upgrade for the long-running machine.

Since its introduction in the year 2000, the C8 has used a 4.2-litre V8 engine sourced from Audi, which, in base form, offers up 400 horsepower. Though it's a great powerpant, that's simply not enough power in this day and age - after all, if a car is going to be called super, it needs to offer more ponies than something as mundane as the Ford Mustang GT.

Supercar drivers are a power-hungry sort, and Spyker is reportedly aiming to please. For more details of the power upgrades, scroll down.
Continue reading Spyker C8 Aileron to come back with supercharged power?

Spyker C8 Aileron to come back with supercharged power? originally appeared on Autoblog Canada on Fri, 08 Mar 2013 09:45:00 EST.
German supercar maker Gumpert didn't bring any new models to the Geneva show this year - just a couple of current-generation Apollos, seen above - but it did come bearing some interesting news about prospective vehicles. In a brief press release that mentions new investment in the company, Gumpert's managing director says, "Our distribution and dealer networks are being expanded worldwide and sister models will soon be added to the Apollo. What's more, we'll already be presenting the first of these models this year at a major trade fair."

That is heartening news from a company that declared insolvency just about a year ago, following a disastrous foray into the Chinese market. Either that flirtation with financial danger had little influence on the company to date, or the new investor has deep pockets, or both.

At any rate, the short statement from Gumpert offers more hope than ever that we'll see the rumored Tornante model, and maybe sooner rather than later. A sleek, 700 horsepower Gumpert won't be easy to hide at upcoming auto shows, we're guessing, now that we've been given some notice. Stay tuned.

The previous version of the Exagon Motors Furtive-eGT was a subtle - in colour, not design - silver. At the Geneva Motor Show this week, Exagon took the wraps off a beautiful copper version of the carbon fibre and honeycomb body. We're not quite sure why the wrap was necessary, since the car was also shown off at the Paris Motor Show last fall, but that doesn't change the fact that it's an electric looker with a 53-kWh lithium-ion battery pack (not 57-kWh as was previously suggested).

Thanks to two liquid-cooled Siemens electric motors that put out 402 horsepower between 5,000 and 10,000 rpm, the Furtive-eGT has a limited top speed of 250 kilometres per hour (155 miles per hour) and can go from 0-100 kph (62 mph) in a scant 3.5 seconds. Despite this performance, the orange EV has a range between 360 kilometres (224 miles) on the urban cycle (as tested using the ECE15 standard) and 310 km (193 miles) on the combined cycle (NEDC standard).

That substantial range can be refilled (from 30 percent to 80 percent) using an undisclosed fast charge method in 32 minutes. Exagon is also claiming the batteries in the four-seat EV will retain "more than 80 per cent" minimum capacity after 3,000 charging cycles (which should take around 10 years). And if you don't trust those new-fangled battery things, the Furtive-eGT has an optional range extender to recharge the batteries (not drive the wheels). Adding liquid combustibles puts the car's fuel economy at something like 3.4 L/100 km (70 mpg) (depending on test cycle).

The base vehicle will start at 448,451 Swiss Francs, which is about $477,000. If you've got that kind of dough, you can order now and take delivery before the end of the year.

Be sure to watch Sabine Schmitz hurl this EV around the Nurburgring, and then hit the jump for more details in the press release.

If there's anything more entertaining than watching a B-segment car bash its way through the woods, we don't want to know about it. Good for us, then, that Opel revealed a competition version of its Adam at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show.

The Adam R2 Rally Concept is designed to conform to FIA R2 regulations and boasts a 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine with 185 horsepower and 140 pound-feet of torque. While technically a concept, Opel says it will work to homologate the hatch. Once done, buyers will be able to compete in any number of international rally events.

So far, Opel has built 40 of the machines for competition in France in Germany, and the whole lot has been sold already. There's no word on how much the production models will cost buyers when they bow, but you can check out the full Opel press release and watch a video below.
Continue reading Geneva shows us a little bruiser of a Rally Racer, the Opel Adam R2 (w/video)

Geneva shows us a little bruiser of a Rally Racer, the Opel Adam R2 (w/video) originally appeared on Autoblog Canada on Thu, 07 Mar 2013 10:30:00 EST.
