Where do concepts go when their auto show circuit life is over? For many, it's off to the scrap heap, while others manage to find their way into various automotive museums and private collections. Yet it is a select few that enjoy the honor of actually being driven on open roads. What you see here is the latter.

In 1988, design house Italdesign brought its wildly futuristic Aztec Barchetta concept to the Turin Motor Show. Visually, there were a lot of things going on here with the design, including spacecraft-styled rear quarter panels, see-through doors and a bold dual cockpit design. The body was constructed out of aluminum, Kevlar and carbon fibre. Additionally, the coupe features an intercom so the driver and passenger can hold conversations at high speed.

While the styling is fit for an auto show floor, the mechanicals are borrowed from some of Europe's rallying greats, including the 250-horsepower five-cylinder of the Audi Quattro and a transmission borrowed from the Lancia Integrale's parts bin.

Yet you'll deduce from the 1992 model year on our headline that this isn't the same car that premiered in Turin in 1988. That's right, this is a street-legal production car. As the story goes, Myakawa, a Japanese industrial corporation, bought the rights to the concept and had German-based Audi tuner, Motoren-Tecknik-Mayer (better known as MTM) produce the Aztec Barchetta in very limited numbers. The first one built performed exhibition laps at the 1992 Monaco Grand Prix, and the originals sold for hundreds of thousands when new.

Very few were made (estimates vary wildly, from 15 to 50), with this model being assembled in UK spec. The seller, Specialized Vehicle Solutions, Ltd. of Manchester, England, is offering this silver example with just 75 miles (120 km) on the odometer, though the listing doesn't disclose how much it's asking to digital tire-kickers.

Hit the jump for a closer look at this futuristic road ready concept.

Motor Trend reports that Lancia isn't headed for the scrap heap after all. Chris Brown, a spokesperson for Chrysler, told MT the automaker will live on and continue to manufacture its Ypsilon hatchback in Italy. The remainder of the brand's vehicles will be built in America by Chrysler. What's more, Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne has said future Lancia models will be co-developed with Chrysler. That's a big shift from what we heard last week. As you may recall, the German site Automobilwoche reported the sun was poised to set on the Lancia brand for good, due in part to economic woes in Europe.

Under the rumoured plan, Fiat would then push Maserati farther downmarket to help fill the gap. As it turns out, Marchionne was simply talking about further platform sharing between Fiat and its profitable American brand. That means we can likely expect to see more Lancia-badged Chryslers prowling the streets of Europe very soon.

Just because Ferrari nixed the New Stratos doesn't mean the existing high-performance wedge can't have a little fun on its own. This past March, the F430-based tribute to the rallying great led a littany of classics as the pace car for the Rally Isla Mallorca. The 2012 race marked the one-year anniversary of its debut at the event.

The vintage race consisted of 14 stages, totaling 450 kilometres, and the New Stratos led the way every time. The number zero affixed to the side marked the New Stratos as the pace vehicle, and signaled the impending classics fast approaching behind it.

The modern interpretation of the classic Italian racer was piloted by the Brose team, which consisted of Michael Stoschek and Dieter Hawkranke. Each evening, when racing ceased, the Stratos, as well as the vintage racing entrants, would take go on display in the yachting community of Portals Nous. However, those who ventured into the mountainous terrain on which the rally was held benefitted from seeing the New Stratos in action.

Rosso Corsa set the event grounds ablaze with rare hints of black, yellow and silver scattered about. Italian Car Day 2012 is the second annual event that draws out many rare cars from their hiding spots tucked away in the garages of Ital-Canadians. The venue of Boyd Conservation Area is right in the core of one of the highest concentrations of Italians outside Italy - Woodbridge, Ontario. And along with the strong sense of heritage, comes a passion for all things made in Italy on four wheels.

Every Italian marque was represented including: Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, Alfa Romeo, FIAT, Lancia, DeTomaso and well, Vespa 3-wheelers too. On the two-wheel side of things were Vespa again but also high performance makes such as Ducati, Moto Guzzi and Aprilia. However, the focus on this day were the cars of collectors and shops all trying to secure bragging rights. Engineered Automotive of Concord, Ontario rocked the crowd with a Ferrari F40 worth $1 Million, then upped the ante with a rare Maserati 200si worth $4 million! This particular 200si recently won the Amelia Island Concours D'Elegance and was raced by the legendary Sir Stirling Moss in '56 outrunning the Ferraris! The naked shell of this classic shaved critical weight off but it is certainly a rare spotting in any finish. Oh, and this Canadian-owned classic also bagged Best of Show, no shocker there.

Beyond that, the FIATs and Alfas were plentiful since the cost of entry to these clubs is affordable. We did see a couple notables from both makes, a widebody turbo FIAT X1-9 and an Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione. The Lamborghini camp was surprisingly small but then again it could just be bad blood that only drew out some brave Diablos, Gallardos and a lone Jalpa. The Lancias were also scarce but then again, they have never sold them here however importation laws mean that 15 year old (or older) Lancia Delta Integrales were in attendance and we were smitten!

However, the make that everyone expected to dominate was Ferrari and they did not disappoint. The prancing horse paraded around in nearly every model, trim, era and condition but it was the F40, 599XX and Nigel Mansell's 1990 F1 machine and that totally made the show for us.

But enough of the chit-chat, we'll let the picture gallery do it's thing.

Head overseas and you may run into a Chrysler 300 wearing a distinctly foreign badge: that of Lancia. The awkward stepchild of the Fiat group rebadges Chrysler vehicles as their own and gives them nameplates from their own back-catalog. Lancia calls its rebadged 300 the Thema, but aside from the handle, it's pretty much the same. But could Chrysler's Italian cousin prompt the development of a coupe version?

According to the latest churn of the rumormill, yes, it could. Chrysler has already used the platform for the two-door Dodge Challenger, a vehicle that isn't officially offered in Europe. When Auburn Hills wanted to offer the Dodge Magnum in Europe, it gave the low-slung power-wagon bodystyle to the 300, but with that model out of the way, why not a two-door?

The question for us, of course, is - were Lancia to go ahead with such a development - could it make it back over to North America? An Italian-designed American two-door might satisfy a market (however small) that was last filled in the late 1980s Chrysler TC by Maserati and the Pininfarina-designed Cadillac Allanté.

The Nuccio concept, showed off by Bertone as a rolling model at the Geneva Motor Show and then as a road-ready car at the Beijing Motor Show is in talks to be sold. An update on the Lancia Stratos Zero concept from the seventies and powered by a 4.3-litre Ferrari V8 with 480 horsepower, the Nuccio was a 15,000-hour exercise in what the company's historical language could look like today.

A Chinese collector was so taken with it that, according to a report in Automotive News, he is in discussions with Bertone to drop €2 million (CAD$2.6 million) to take it home. If the deal is closed, he won't get to take it home until after the Pebble Beach weekend, where Bertone plans to again display the Nuccio.

Stick a fork in it. The New Stratos is done. Reports kicking around the web have confirmed Ferrari has put the nix on any hopes of a production run. As you may recall, the New Stratos prototype was built off of the bones of a Ferrari F430. Pininfarina supplied the vehicle's carbon fibre skin, and Ferrari CEO Luca di Montezemolo was so taken with the project that he personally put down a hot lap in the wedge. That affection was fleeting, however. The minds behind the New Stratos have reportedly confirmed Ferrari doesn't want to cooperate with any company that could build a direct competitor to its products.

Listen closely and you'll hear the sound of our hearts breaking, bit by bit. There is some good news in all this gloom, however. The group behind the New Stratos has begun talks with Renault, and the French manufacturer may be keen to let the company craft a new take on the Alpine A110 Berlinette. Game on.

Of all the major international auto shows on the calendar each year, the Bologna Motor Show may not rank among the most important. But it is vital for the Fiat Group, whose numerous brands make up more than just one lion's share of the Italian auto industry. As such, it's not a show for Fiat to take lightly, and this year, it's coming with a whole mess of new debuts.

Discounting Maserati and Ferrari (who kind of do their own thing), the Fiat Group divisions are displaying a freshly facelifted version of the Fiat Sedici, a Fiat 500 Nation Limited Edition, Lancia Ypsilon Black&Red edition and four new specials from Abarth.

Six years since its launch, the Sedici (Italian for Sixteen, the product of 4x4 - also known as the Suzuki SX4) has been been treated to a minor facelift. Available in three trim levels, buyers can choose between a 120-horsepower 1.6-litre four or a 135-hp 2.0 MultiJet diesel in either front-wheel drive or selectable all-wheel drive.

The Fiat 500 Nation Limited Edition will be offered in both hatchback and convertible versions, of which a suitable 500 examples of each will be offered. The American version of the hatchback is painted blue with Stars & Stripes graphics, while the cabrio comes in white with similar graphics and a red roof.

The Black&Red edition of the Lancia Ypsilon, meanwhile, is distinguished by four colour choices - two reds, a black and a two-tone black and red scheme - with either a 69-hp 1.2-litre gasoline engine or a 95-hp turbodiesel.

Finally, Abarth is coming to Bologna in full force with four special editions. The 595 Turismo and Competizione models pack a 160-hp version of the Abarth's 1.4-litre turbo four with two flavours of style. The 695 Assetto Corse takes 205 horsepower to the track, while the Punto Scorpione packs a 180-hp 1.4-litre four for a 7.5-second sprint to 100 km/h, distinguished by matte-on-gloss black finish and a special snowboard in an edition limited to 99 examples.

An additional "by Abarth" package is also on offer for the Fiat 500 TwinAir that offers some of the visual excitement of an all-out Abarth performance model without modification to the 85-hp two-cylinder engine.

Well, we can all stop hoping for a new Dodge Magnum.

Chrysler-Lancia CEO Saad Chebab told Autocar that there will be no Touring version of the redesigned Chrysler 300 built for Europe, saying that wagon sales in North America are not robust enough to justify development costs for a five-door version of the platform. If Europe isn't getting a Chrysler wagon, we certainly aren't going to see a Dodge version here.

The previous-generation Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 both spawned wagon variants, the Dodge Magnum for the North American market and the Chrysler 300 Touring overseas. The Magnum was never a hot seller, though it had its fans - ourselves included - and Autocar says the 300 wagon was popular both in the U.K. and on mainland Europe.

But with Fiat calling the shots now and post-bankruptcy budgets at Chrysler still tight, we're guessing any money that could have been spent putting a new Magnum on the road went elsewhere. Like rebadging the 300 and other Chryslers as Lancias.

Filed under: Minivan/Van, Car Buying, Europe, Chrysler, Lancia, Fiat

The Chrysler-Fiat merger has already spawned some nicely badge-engineered Chryslers for the U.K. market, and now comes payback. The 2012 Lancia Voyager goes on sale in Europe this month, and if it looks like a Chrysler Town & Country Limited, well, that's because it is.

Save for some rather tastefully applied badging identifying the upscale Italian brand - and the removal of the TC's chrome bodyside molding - we're hard pressed to see much difference between the Canadian and Euro versions of the people mover, at least on the surface. Underhood, however, Lancia will be offering a 2.8-litre common rail turbodiesel that's unavailable in Canada.

While the diesel is only rated at a meager 163 horsepower, its 265 pound-feet of torque is more than the Pentastar V6 gasoline engine, which is also an option overseas. Fiat says the diesel Voyager is good for 7.8 L/100 km in the European combined cycle; the 283-horsepower Pentastar manages 10.7 L/100 km in this application.

This would be the place where we would normally grumble about not getting the diesel version here in Canada, but we're not going to do that this time. After all, it's just a Chrysler minivan. See the full press release after the break.

There's nothing like Europe's enthusiasm for motorsports. While our nation's lawyers have cornered our high-horsepower endeavours into tri-ovals and road courses, Europeans have no problem setting up a few hay bales and handing over public streets to a slew of vintage rally kings for an exhibition of carbureted glory. Such was the case at the recent 2011 Rally Legend event in San Marino, Italy, where the town's quaint lanes were cleared for a pack of Lancia Stratos HF racers.

The event also enjoyed a very special visitor: the newest interpretation of the epic wedge. A fan took the time to video a few passes by various racers, including the New Stratos, to give us all an idea of what the beast sounds like under a flogging. With 540 horsepower barking through eight very Italian cylinders, the New Stratos sounds like it looks; fantastic. Hit the jump to check out the clips for yourself.

The spawn of the Chrysler-Fiat merger has made its way to the English market, in the form of the 2012 Chrysler Delta and 2012 Chrysler Ypsilon. If they look familiar, that's because these cars are cribbed directly from the Lancia range.

The Ypsilon is available with Fiat's 0.9-litre TwinAir, which earned International Engine of the Year honours. If that's too small, there's a 1.2-litre four-pot and 1.3-litre turbodiesel available, as well. The Delta gets two different 1.4-litre options, including a 140-hp, 1.4-litre MultiAir four-cylinder. On top of the 1.4s, there are also 1.6- and 2.0-litre engines available.

Both cars have just gone on sale in the UK, and Chrysler hopes these reworked Italians will improve the brand's meager share across Europe.

Here in Canada, we're slowly reaping the benefits of the Chrysler-Fiat partnership. The adorable little 500 is starting to find homes across the country and much of the rest of the Chrysler lineup is about to get a healthy dose of Italian injection. Too bad, then, that we aren't exactly returning the favour to our European friends. After all, this new Lancia Flavia Cabriolet is just a Chrysler 200 Convertible with a bit of Italian frosting.

Still, the 200 Convertible is improved over the "I'll take the bus, thanks" Sebring convertible it replaces, and as it is in Canada, we can see it being a hot commodity among rental car companies throughout Europe. The much-improved 200 sedan will not be joining its topless Flavia kin overseas.

"Hello, Europe... are you ready to rock?" "We can't hear you!" "We said... 'Are you READY TO ROCK?!'" Well you're in luck, because it's nearly time to drop your tops and rock out to the all-new Lancia Flavia Cabrio! Ignore your Canadian friends when they try to tell you it's just a Chrysler 200 Convertible wearing Lancia badges, they're all just jealous.

The Lancia Flavia Cabrio is set to make its debut at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, along with a host of other new Lancia products. The 175-horsepower 2.4-litre V6 and six-speed automatic transmission come standard, and will make sure to push your butt back into its fine, fine (optional) leather. Sure, you can use the whole seat... but you'll only need the edge.

Check out the Lancia Flavia Cabrio in all its high-resolution glory in the gallery. There you'll also get to check out the new Thema, Voyager, Ypsilon and Delta. Rock on!
New Voyager: the art of travelling together
New Ypsilon: synthesis of elegance and innovation
New Delta: the compact flagship according to Lancia

Thema, Voyager and Flavia Cabrio. These are the first three models emerging from the alliance between the new Lancia and the new Chrysler "parade" down the prestigious catwalk of the International Motor Show in Frankfurt. They are all unique products that perfectly express the values shared by Lancia and Chrysler, which by now have become a single identity: from elegance and technological innovation to a century-old history and desire to excel in the future. The public will be able to also admire the Musa and Delta models completing the world's fullest premium range, from segment B to that of the Large MPVs, at the stand set up in Frankfurt.
It is precisely the "dual spirit" theme inborn in the union between Lancia and Chrysler that is the concept around which the exhibition area is set up, breathing life into a sinuous motion of expressive shapes and languages. This stimulating stand lets the public discover the new automotive dynasty that best contains two industrial cultures: the exuberant style, flair for delivering a "stress-free experience" and functionality all associated with the Chrysler brand, coupled with the taste, innovation and love of manufacturing that have always distinguished Lancia.

All new Lancia cars meet the desires of a refined customer who is reclaiming the pleasure of "possessing", but without flaunting financial standing; a customer capable of embracing diametrically opposed ideas such as tradition and innovation, rational thought and emotion, individualism and social awareness It is a world of exclusiveness, no longer shackled to the idea of possessing precious, expensive objects, but to subjective pleasure and gratification. For this customer, the quality of the new Lancia takes a further step forward, offering a new experience on board thanks to the use of prestige materials, meticulous attention to craftsmanship in every detail and technological innovation which is always at the service of driver and passengers.

The undisputed star of the stand is the Lancia Thema, the first global flagship that combines the best of two worlds to become the paradigm of the new Lancia. Like the original Thema launched in 1984, the new top-range saloon takes on the toughest, but also the most prestigious, segment, striving to offer a genuine alternative.

The goal is not easy to attain if we consider that the market target addressed is made up of more demanding customers who are used to having the best. Nevertheless, there is a precise tendency to want a more personal exclusivity in this particular bracket. The demand for a technology not as cold than what has been offered up until today, a demand for greater warmth, more craftsmanship, a stronger temperament, is emerging insistent. And it is here where the Lancia Thema fits in. This global flagship combines the classically American features of size, comfort and presence on the road with the "Made in Italy" craftsmanship, the cocooning silence of the large Lancias and the quality of materials and fabrics that elegantly "clothe" the most advanced technology serving comfort and safety.

They are precisely these peculiarities that make the new saloon boasting Lancia prestige something special, a product that when used every day turns the concept of a simple "means of transport" into an exhilerating travelling experience. That is because a "great trip" is not just leaving and arriving, but a continuous string of thrills and discoveries during all the time that passes.

On sale from October in all European dealerships, the Lancia Thema is available in three trim levels - Gold, Platinum and Executive - and with three engines: the 286 HP 3.6L V6 petrol engine with 8-speed automatic gearbox and the 190 HP or 239 HP 3.0L V6 diesel engines, both with 5-speed automatic gearbox.

The second new feather of the new Lancia range is the new Voyager, a Chrysler invention that radically changed motoring language, adding a new word and creating a new world: MPV, the art of travelling. A true icon of the MPV (Multi-Purpose Vehicle) category with 27 years on the road and more than thirteen million units sold in 120 countries around the world, today the American model "marries" Italian style, metamorphosing into an exclusive top-range MPV in which Chrysler's journey expertise joins forces with that of Lancia in driving satisfaction, on-board comfort, reduced passenger compartment noise, the art of attention to detail and Italian design.

The result is the best Voyager ever which picks up where the Lancia Phedra left off to write another page in the history of this category. One of the new cars showcased on the stand, with Gold trim level, features a Euro 5 163 HP Diesel 2.8 engine with exterior in the shade of Dark Charcoal, while the interior is distinguished by fine black leather upholstery, an entertainment system with DVD players mounted on the second and third rows, navigation system, Keyless entry and rear back-up camera.

On sale from October in all European dealerships, the Lancia Voyager will be available in the Gold trim level and with two engines: the 287 HP 3.6L V6 petrol with automatic 6-speed gearbox and the 163 HP 2.8L V6 diesel with 6 speeds.

The fusion of ideas and skills between Chrysler and Lancia also enables exciting new expressions of automotive art to emerge incredibly quickly. One clear demonstration is the captivating Lancia Flavia Cabrio on display in Frankfurt, the quintessence of open-air driving pleasure with 4 genuine seats, marked by white three-layer bodywork and interiors in fine leather. Fitted with a 175 HP 2.4 litre petrol engine and 6-speed automatic gearbox, the car offers a wealth of all inclusive equipment as standard.

There is also room for the new "mini flagship", the Lancia Ypsilon, which is displayed in Frankfurt with three new Ypsilon models - a 69 HP Gold 1.2 and two versions (Gold and Platinum) equipped with the innovative 85 HP 0.9 TwinAir - a small but significant champion of the range in terms of colours, optionals available and accessories.

Offered for the first time with five doors to welcome lovers of charm, technological excellence and the unique style of Lancia with enhanced comfort, it is a true "concentrate" of elegance, technology and power in just 3.8 metres. It has been on the major European markets since June, and starting in September will be sold under the Chrysler brand in Great Britain and Ireland.

Twenty-five years and more than a million and a half cars on the road later, the new Lancia "mini flagship" confirms the basic personality of previous versions, comprising a distinctive character that seduces with its good looks and elegance, boosted by cutting-edge technology applied to engines and comfort which not only delivers reduced emissions and consumption - thanks to technologies such as TwinAir, MultiJet II and Start&Stop - but also offers unparalleled on-board wellbeing through features unique in this category, including the brand new "Blue&Me-TomTom LIVE" and "Smart fuel" system", in addition to the innovative Magic Parking, Xenon headlights and LED tail lights.

The launch of the new Lancia continues with the development of iconic models. This is evident in the new Delta, a milestone Lancia model which heralded a new concept, bringing the attributes of a flagship to segment C. Its 4.5 metres pack in all the luxury and interior space of a higher category: the seats recline into chaise-longues, the upholstery reveals quality textures and passengers are cocooned by an almost magical comfort and silence on every journey. Recently updated with the 2011 range, today the new version fitted out with the 120 HP EURO 5 bi-fuel 1.4 Turbo Jet engine is making its debut. It will be available on all European markets in three different trim levels (Steel, Silver and Gold).

Completing the exhibit in Frankfort is the Musa, which expresses the best Made in Italy craftsmanship capable of combining the comfort, room and class of a limousine with the agility and compactness of a city car. The model on display is a 95 HP Platinum 1.4 16v (Euro5) with Start&Stop supplied standard, distinguished by a two-tone body (Angelico White/Masaccio Black)
.
Finally, brochures and certain dedicated publications at the stand will be introducing visitors to the products of FGA Capital, a financial company (joint venture of Fiat Group Automobiles and Crédit Agricole) specialised in the automotive segment. The company is operating in all the major European markets, and in Germany with FGA Bank, with a sole mission: support the sales of all the brand vehicles brand vehicles by offering innovative financial products with high added value services targeted at the dealership network, private customers and companies.

Fiat is getting ready to stick For Sale signs on the Chrysler 200 in the European market. However, it seems only the 200 Convertible will be making the trip, where it will wear Lancia Flavia badging.

Why is the sedan stuck on this side of the pond? Fiat executives find it too costly to add a diesel option, and feel the 200 sedan won't sell well without an oil-burning powerplant under the hood. The convertible, however, is viewed as an attractive offering (in a manner of speaking) despite the gas-only powerplant.

Good news, business travelers - you can now rent yourself a droptop Sebring 2.0 while jet-setting in Europe, too.

While most traditional Italians took the opportunity over this past weekend to have a busy day jarring some homemade tomato sauce from their own bountiful gardens, others chose to take part in another event which was centred around Italian cars.

The first annual Italian Car Day was a prime example of everything Italian and drew in all kinds of people. Owners and cult followers of Italian marque vehicles made the journey out to Boyd Conservation area in Woodbridge, ON for a celebration of Italian classics new and old. Although it was an excuse for all car enthusiasts to come out and take in the breathtaking sights of truly magnificent pieces of machinery, it was also an opportunity to see, hear, smell, and taste some Italian culture. From vendor artwork, to live bands and the savoury smell of: fresh porcetta, veal and spaduccis mixed perfectly with the sweet exhaust smell (and sound) during the mass engine start of all the vehicles in attendance.

Some of the notable mentions were an Alfa Romeo Montreal, the only driving Lancia Thema 8.32 in Canada, a 1956 Maserati 200 SI, an Alfa Romeo GT Junior, prime examples of Ferrari's poster car Testarossa and of course the yellow Lamborghini Miura above. If you looked hard enough among all the insane sports cars and grand tourers, a Vespa 400 could be spotted as well as a small army of Fiat 500s in all different trims and styles - Abarth included.

Sponsored by Engineered Automotive, the event was months in the making and went off flawlessly for a first attempt. The event pulled in thousands of dollars for the Safehaven charity and already has their sights set on making next year's event bigger and better. With over 200 vehicles showing up this year, the event organizers plan to expand the event and are aiming for over 300 stunning vehicles for 2012.

If you are from Southern Ontario (or upper New York State) there is a good chance that you know there are some serious cars in Canada's largest city. It is considered among many that Woodbridge, Ontario houses the most Ferrari's in one single area compared to anywhere else across Canada. This could likely also be carried forward for nearly any brand of exotics that call that area their home.

On a daily basis it is an ordinary sight to see somewhere in the neighbourhood of 10 Ferrari's cruising around nonchalantly, as well as a slew of other marques. For people that live out of the area and find an exotic sighting to be a rarity, this event will satisfy your fix for expensive, powerful, beautifully styled cars which encircle all of what it means to be an Italian exotic. Click past the jump to get all the details on the upcoming event.
Continue reading Italian Car Day aims to be an exotic treat for car enthusiasts

Italian Car Day aims to be an exotic treat for car enthusiasts originally appeared on Autoblog Canada on Thu, 04 Aug 2011 14:00:00 EST. New Lancia Stratos becomes a part of history - Click above to watch the video

The new Ferrari F430 Scuderia-based Lancia Stratos has been the darling of the interwebs since it was first teased in 2009. Over the last two years, it's made it from a simple sketch to a very real, very fast, very rare tribute to a true motorsports legend.

To give the car the introduction it deserves, its builders have combined footage of the original Stratos tearing its way through Europe's rally passes with film of the new car doing its thing on a modern race track. The effect is a hoontastic history lesson and tribute to both cars.

Unfortunately for us, the video is entirely in German, but the footage is cool enough to bridge any language barrier. The full 13-minute video resides after the jump. Continue reading.

2012 Lancia Ypsilon - Click above for high-res image gallery

When Lancia launched the new Ypsilon at the Geneva Motor Show early last month, it joined its sister-companies' Fiat 500 and Alfa Romeo MiTo in the Italian auto group's premium hatchback line-up. But while the model is being sold as a Chrysler in the British Isles, plans to bring it over to North America have reportedly been canceled. Apparently the planned launch of the Chrysler Ypsilon in the States was feared to edge in on the recently launched American-market Fiat 500 too closely and potentially cannibalize sales for the retro hatch.

The report goes on to indicate that similar plans to market the larger Lancia Delta in North America have likewise been shelved. The Delta was brought to 2010 Detroit Auto Show wearing Chrysler's winged badge, sparking discussions over whether the lackluster Golf-sized hatchback could make a dent in the North American market, but the case for the badge-engineering exercise was apparently a non-starter.

The inverse, however, remains to be seen, as Chrysler models like the 200 sedan and convertible, the 300 sedan and the Town & Country minivan are being marketed in Europe as Lancias.
Lancia Delta Integrale special editions - Click above for a high-res image gallery

It's rare enough to find one Lancia Delta Integrale for sale in North America. It's rarer still to find an example of one of the special edition cars Lancia made over the last two years of the Delta Integrale's life cycle. This week, though, Bring a Trailer is featuring two such cars from one Canadian seller.

The first car is one of 400 1992 Lancia Delta Integrale Martini 5 Special Editions, built to commemorate Lancia's fifth World Rally Championship. The Martini 5 also marked the first run of special edition Integrales. According to the seller, this one has been upgraded with Martini 6 decals, 17-inch Speedline wheels and a catalytic converter-less Group B exhaust system.

Inside, there's an aftermarket OMP steering wheel, Alcantara trim and a pair of delicious Recaro buckets. The seller says he still has the original wheels if the 17s are a bit much. Though the car is apparently street legal in Canada, it will need a catalytic converter if it's going to pass a smog test in Vancouver. Those of you in the States will have to make do with a show and display exception, or wait until the car is 25 years old before it can be registered.

The second car is one of 250 1994 Lancia Delta Integrale Edizione Finale cars made specifically for the Japanese market. Like all Edizione Finales, this example wears Rosso Amarento paint, and carries a laundry list of the Delta's most desirable options. That means a set of anthracite gray 16-inch Speedline wheels, push-button start, carbon fiber trim, aluminum pedals, a passenger footrest and the same Recaro furniture that graces the Martini Delta. On top of all that, the Edizione Finale received a bump to 250 horsepower, thanks to revised engine management.

Both cars are available exclusively through BaT, though we doubt they'll be sticking around too long given their rarity and desirability. Unfortunately for us, they're priced accordingly. The 1992 Martini 5 car is listed at a heady $80,000 US, while the 1994 Edizione Finale is "just" $65,000 US. Head over to Bring A Trailer for more.
