For those hoping the next iteration of Polyphony Digital's storied 15-year-old Gran Turismo franchise would take full advantage of the Sony Playstation 4, sorry, but we're going to burst your bubble. The next-gen console is slated to debut this holiday season, and while Sony officially announced today that Gran Turismo 6 would be released at the same time, it will be for the seven-year-old Playstation 3 console, not the new PS4. But hey, at least we won't have to have waited five years for this version like we did for the fifth.

GT6 will launch with a roster of 1,200 cars, 33 locations (seven more than GT5) and 71 track layouts. The racing simulator is also said to utilize new game and physics engines, which Sony claims "pushes the limits of the PS3." Today's announcement was made at the well-known Silverstone racing circuit in the UK, which is one of the new tracks in GT6. A demo version of the game with 19 cars (see the full list below and view them in the image gallery) will be released before the holiday season; Sony says it's scheduled for July and will kick off GT Academy 2013.

We'll see more of Gran Turismo 6 at the E3 games show in June, but for now you can watch the trailer below for what has become the Playstation 3's best-selling franchise with 70 million copies sold. This sixth iteration will likely lock down that honour for good.

An impromptu gas-station musical erupted at a Costco gas station when TV host Tim Stack started talking to a patron of the gas station through the small ad TV above the fuel pump. Luckily for the Tonight Show with Jay Leno host, this unsuspecting customer was no ordinary man of the pump, but a soulful, fun-loving bar-tender and avid karaoke singer who was happy to play along.

Not long into the musical fossil-fuel filling, Will Sims, our favourite gas-pumper, brought his wife Monifa onto the concrete stage. The resulting duet brought other curious patrons around to see what was causing the song-and-dance commotion.

The Sims couple's zest for life and playful attitude during this spontaneous karaoke interaction so impressed Jay Leno that he decided to have both Will and Monifa on his show to perform for his live audience. We can't help but wonder if the Sims' next calling will be to write a marriage guide-book as it's abundantly clear from the video that this couple has got it right, and couldn't be happier after 12 years of marriage. Watching Monifa's interaction with her husband is downright hilarious and when she cuts to her "dance-break" it's easy to see that this fitness instructor is not to be outdone by her husband.

The producers of Iron Man 3 undoubtedly have the No. 24 Audi RS5 DTM car driven by Adrien Tambay at last week's Hockenheim round to thank for the movie's record-breaking global opening. Not only was Tambay's car wrapped to be a high-speed billboard for the movie, the entire team dressed in Iron man-themed race suits made by partner Alpinestars and wore themed helmets from Uvex. What other reason could there be?

To make sure that all of Earth's residents at least get to hear about the movie, Tambay's team will be donning the livery again at the Brands Hatch round on May 19. There's a miniature press release below, along with a video of the crew hamming it up - as you would do when you get the chance to drive one of the few Audis that might be cooler than Tony Stark's!

Fans of the Grand Theft Auto video game series rejoice! With GTA V hitting shelves on September 17, Rockstar Games has released a new trailer, only this time we get to see even more car action/destruction. With GTA versions of the BMW M3, Aston Martin Vantage, Charger, Camaro and many more!

This video gives us a brief look of the game from the point of view of three main characters: Michael, Franklin and Trevor. In addition to cars, it looks like users can still operate motorcycles, airplanes and helicopters too. The three-part trailer is posted below, but - for those familiar with the GTA series, this goes without saying - violence, language and nudity make this video not safe for work.

A playful design company has created a delightful set of wooden playthings. The Dream Car by Huzi Design was a successful Kickstarter campaign for a set of interchangeable wooden blocks that can be used to create any kind of car - no, not just a car, any kind of thing on wheels. Now available for sale, Huzi uses birch wheels affixed to walnut bases, and different bodystyles are made of poplar and coated with the same paint used for chalkboards. The wooden bases contain magnets that are recessed when not in use but that pop out to secure the body on when needed. Each set comes with a box of dustless chalk so kids, and adults, can draw on the bodies and not make a mess.

The project was a collaboration of designers from around the world, answering the question "Why can't a dream car have graffiti on it, or have triangular windows, or even not have any resemblance of a movable vehicle?"

The video below with details the project from its Kickstarter roots, and explains the brainchild of a woman whose company name comes from asking herself the question, "What would the world would look like if we all had a mustache?"

In case you haven't been paying attention, it is "Big Money Week" on the long-running Price Is Right televised game show. In a nutshell, it means that more than a million dollars in cash and prizes are up for grabs for those lucky enough to "come on down," to play some games and correctly guess product retail prices.

Moments after opening the show Thursday, host Drew Carey broke the unexpected news. "Today you are going to see the single-most-expensive prize in the history of the daytime Price is Right," he boasted before the curtains were pulled back to review a brand-new Ferrari 458 Italia Spider.

To win the car, the contestant had to play "Three Strikes" - blindly pulling numbers out of a bag and putting them in the correct price sequence before grabbing three dreaded red strikes. As expected, your typical Price Is Right contestant is about as familiar with today's retail Ferrari pricing as they are with fractional jet ownership. We won't spoil the fun of whether or not a lucky contestant gets to drive the US$285,716 (Canadian pricing is well over $300,000) exotic home, but feel free to speed ahead to about the three-minute mark on the video below to watch the reveal.

Grid 2 gameplay

The developers of Grid 2, which arrives in stores in May 31, three days later than originally announced, have decided to show us some details of the gameplay teased before in its new Racenet rivals system. Distinct from the career mode will be online modes that can accommodate 12 players paired by playlists and preferences like "anti-griefing," which can keep drivers who don't mind rubbin' separate from those who prefer no contact.

Modes are Race, Endurance, Drift, Touge, Checkpoint, Face Off and Time Attack. There are three Rivals modes that can choose competitors based on ability, social connections or custom settings. Overtake and Power Lap are part of Global Challenge events and races can be contested even when rivals are offline.

There's also the ability to record your finest moments in-game and upload them to YouTube. Speaking of which, there's a video below that makes all this info much more exciting, and a press release below that if you prefer the old-fashioned way.

Smack Attack Steering Wheel

We'll admit it: we're plenty guilty of using our steering wheel as an impromptu drum kit for awesome traffic solo performances. And by "awesome traffic solo performances," we really mean, "fits of off-beat epileptic flailing." But that's neither here nor there.

One company is out to turn absent-minded steering wheel drumming into a game with a special wheel cover. Called the Smack Attack, the gizmo features eight touch sensors that produce drum sounds on top of the music pumping from your iPhone music library. If that seems like a massive bout of distracted driving waiting to happen, its creators say the device could actually keep drivers focused by engaging them.

We suppose anything that keeps a driver's mind from wandering off is a step in the right direction, and Smack Attack isn't attached to any sort of game. It just lets you make fun noises by whacking your steering wheel. Buyers can also download songs without the drum part so that the user can drop his or her own beats. Forza Horizon has released a new, and free, downloadable content pack. The 1000 Club DLC features two new cars - the 1956 Ford F100 pickup and 1995 RUF CTR2 - but the more important part is the fact that players can now partake in a rash of new challenges.

How many? Try five challenges for every car in the game. The DLC will even recommend challenges for you depending on which cars you already have in your garage. What's more, they aren't just kept to the typical stunts we've seen from the game so far.

For instance, you may have to cause a certain amount of damage by running over objects, or do something like jump your digital supercar a specific distance, and each car has its own set of unique challenges to keep the gameplay interesting. Did we mention that it's also free, as in 400 MS points less than the typical monthly Forza Horizon DLC pack?

Hot Wheels Retro

Hot Wheels has rolled out a new series of die-cast toys aimed directly at our nostalgic hearts. The Retro Entertainment Series plucks iconic cars from movie and television past, shrinks them down to 1:64 scale and packages them up for your buying enjoyment. The collection includes machines like the 1932 Ford from American Graffiti and DeLorean time machine from Back to the Future to the Ecto 1 from Ghostbusters and The Bandit's '77 Firebird from Smokey and The Bandit. There's even a 1971 Plymouth Satellite from The Brady Bunch. All told there will be seven mixes, each with five distinct vehicles.

The sets won't just be land bound, either. Hot Wheels also plans to produce a few aircraft, including the Island Hopper from Magnum P.I. and Cylon Raider from Battlestar Galactica. Awesome.

If you want one, expect to pay around $3 for the privilege. Just be prepared for the quotient of badly-sung theme songs in your household to increase exponentially.

Mercedes-Benz AMG CLK GTR - Forza Horizon

Forza Horizon fans will be pleased to read that a new car pack is available for download today, this latest one selected by the editors at Top Gear magazine. True to the Top Gear image, the selection of rides is both worthwhile and pretty quirky, too.

A 2012 Aston Martin Vanquish and the legendary Mercedes-Benz AMG CLK GTR would seem to lead this class in terms of performance metal, though the utterly lovely Alfa Romeo TZ3 Stradale Zagato is no slouch, either. You might not instantly remember the Bowler EXR S, but rest assured that the love child of Land Rover and a rally raid outfit is a high-horsepower SUV that should be fun to use on the unpaved sections of the Horizon universe.

Still, the big win here is absolutely the 2011 Ford Transit SuperSportVan. A full-size Euro cargo van, pumping out an whopping 198-horsepower and with a center of gravity roughly 2.5 metres (eight feet) off the ground. What's not to love? The steady drip of GRID 2 teasing, leading up to the game's May 28 release date, continues with a video, a press release and some new images from Codemasters.

The new video features a few more looks at USA-based racing in GRID 2, including cut scenes from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the California coast and on the streets of Chicago. Narrated by the game's fictional, racing series-creating Patrick Callahan, the trailer also hints at some game mechanics for you, the driver and star of GRID 2.

Essentially, the better you race, the more fame (GRID 2 experience points) you gain to recruit fans, gain access to new events, attract sponsors and, of course, win new cars. Apparently there's also a tie-up with ESPN's SportsCenter for the new title, offering "live-action" cut scenes of your rise from nobody to big shot. We have enough Lego fans on the Autoblog Canada team that, were cars wiped off the face of the Earth tomorrow, our fall-back plan would be to launch Legoblog: We Obsessively Cover The Lego Industry. So a full-size Ferrari F1 car made entirely out of Lego bricks is something that's sure to catch our attention.

Unveiled yesterday by Ferrari drivers Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa in Australia ahead of the season-opening Melbourne Grand Prix, this 1:1 scale model of the team's 2011 Ferrari F150 Italia car is a highly accurate recreation of the real thing. While Ferrari hasn't released too many details about it (a brick count would be nice), we do know that the car has real Pirelli race tires and a seat that can actually accommodate a driver. Once buckled in, though, everything within arms reach is made of Lego, including the complicated F1 steering wheel.

The Lego F1 car is part of a promotion between Ferrari and Shell that's been going on for some time. In some places of the world (not in North America, though), if you stop at a Shell station and refuel, you can purchase these special mini Ferrari Lego kits that feature six of the Italian brand's greatest creations: the F40, 458 Italia, FXX, 250 GT Berlinetta, the Scuderia Ferrari Truck and even a pint-sized version of this F150 Italia. Or you could just buy the full set on eBay, which features a mark up in price worthy of the Ferrari name.

Citroen has taken their DS3 - the car they modify to contend the World Rally Championship - and made it green in a very unconventional way. No hybrid drive here folks - no green paint either. No, Citroen has taken a unique stab at commemorating Sebastien Loeb and Daniel Elena's nine WRC wins. Rather than work up yet another tired video of the champions expounding on the virtues, trials and and tribulations that come with being the very best for nearly a decade straight, the company whipped up a diorama atop a Citroen DS3. The scale model is lush with greenery and covers nine separate rally terrains, including bits from Rally Finland and the Acropolis Rally. Each one of the nine sections features a 1:43 scale version of the duo's rally car from each year of victorious competition.

The model took Kieron Barter of Funky Lemon Design and his team some two months to complete. Initially displayed at the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, the diorama is set to start a tour of various dealers beginning today. Check out the full press release below for more information.

There are still plenty of companies that haven't gotten the whole social media thing down pat yet, but Hot Wheels isn't one of them. During the recent Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto, Hot Wheels created a lot of buzz for itself by using a vending machine filled with Chevrolet Camaro models, but instead of money to get the cars, show attendees just had to use Twitter.

To get the free car, people were asked to send a tweet to Hot Wheels Canada saying what they liked about the new Hot Wheels Edition Camaro, and including the #ChevyCIAS hashtag. This seemed to be a popular marketing tool, too, as AdWeek reports that the @HotWheelsCanada account more than tripled in followers during the course of the 10-day show. Looking ahead, this could open up even more innovative marketing possibilities using social media.

Check out the video posted below to watch how it works, and while the auto show has ended and the free-car giveaway has too, we're almost certain that some of the 1,500 freebies will make their way onto eBay.

It never ceases to amaze us how much video production talent you can find on YouTube, especially when considering movies like Battleship actually exist on the silver screen. It's even better, of course, when cars are involved, which is why we can't stop watching this car chase between a pair of radio controlled Ford Mustangs.

Racing through a detailed set built in the middle of a public street using just "cardboard, hot glue and spray paint," this video is possibly even greater than The Greatest R/C Car Chase Ever that we saw last year. With the exception of a fruit stand and/or a plate-glass window being carried across the street, this has all the makings of a classic cliché chase scene.

PS4 game DriveClub - screencap of Hennessey's taillamps

PS4 game DriveClub - screencap of Mercedes CLA AMGSony held a big event last night where many thought it would debut its next-next-next-gen console system, the Playstation 4. As it turns out, Sony both did and didn't debut the PS4, choosing to keep the console's design a secret for now while premiering the new controller's look, a new Kinect-like camera peripheral and the machine's basic hardware specs.

The other thing that got a lot of attention were games, one of which previewed during the event was DriveClub, a new racing game franchise by Evolution Studios that will launch with the PS4 this holiday season. The studios prior highlights include developing World Rally Championship games for the PS2 and Motorstorm for the PS3. The teaser vid for DriveClub can be watched below, and while it looks darn good, these sorts of vids aren't always accurate representations of what the actual gameplay graphics will look like.

From what we've heard and can tell from the video, DriveClub will look and work just like the other major racing game franchises, namely the Gran Turismo and Forza Motorsport series. It's reported, however, that DriveClub will be able to support hundreds of drivers and that it's graphical detail goes down to a car's "microscopic" flecks of paint.

As for the cars that will be included, we see a number of vehicles in the teaser video, including the Hennessey Venom GT, BAC Mono and Pagani Huayra, among others. Mercedes-Benz has even issued a press release announcing that the CLA45 AMG and A45 AMG will be in the game and included the first official shot of the former done up in the game's photorealistic graphics.

So what say you Playstation users? Does DriveClub look like it can give the grand-daddy of next-gen racing games, Gran Turismo, a run for its money on Sony's console?

Sony has just announced their next-generation gaming console, the Playstation 4 or PS4 as it will be known to gamers. This occurs to us as exciting news because a new Playstation beckons a new version of the console's famous racing game, Gran Turismo.

You can only stay in the hot tub for so long - we Canadian car enthusiasts must eventually move on to other pastimes during the long winter months. Many of us enjoy brushing up on our track driving skills via racing video games.

Plenty of arcade-style car racing games remain, but the discerning car enthusiast will select from a group of games endearingly called "driving simulators." The physics engines of these games are so advanced, invoking reality, that much can actually be learned by playing them. For example, one can learn the subtleties of car setup - adjusting tire pressures and spring rates. Driving simulators can also be used as excellent tools to learn new racetracks before you actually drive them - we can attest to this fact after having driven on the Circuit de Catalunya via Forza on the Xbox before actually driving it.

One of the most popular driving / racing simulators to ever hit TV screens is Gran Turismo (GT) - a game belonging to the Sony Playstation console - it can't be played on other consoles such as Microsoft's Xbox. In its 5th iteration, it's already a darling game, with great graphics, a plethora of cars to choose from, and realistic in-game physics. But rumour has it that Gran Turismo 6 is to launch, following the reveal of Sony's latest Playstation, the Sony Playstation 4. Rejoice, GT Fans, as the PS4 launch has just happened.

Car enthusiasts rejoice! Our beloved racecar in the Hasbro board game Monopoly has been saved. The Monopoly-loving world has spoken, and the newest game piece is... a cat. In a democratic move, Hasbro let the internet decide which token would be getting kicked off the board, and, in the end, it was the lowly iron that will now get locked away in the Monopoly vault. Bye bye iron, and hello kitty.

The boot and the wheelbarrow were close to getting canned as well, while the dog and racecar were the two most popular pieces in the voting. As for the new piece, the cat was chosen over other possibilities including a helicopter, guitar, robot and diamond ring.

The wait for the May 28th on-sale date of Grid 2 just official got a little bit more unbearable, as the sadists at Codemasters have released a trailer of actual game play. In short: it looks amazing.

Starring in the one-minute clip are classists like the E30 BMW M3, Ford Mustang Mach 1 and Chevrolet Camaro Z28 RS - all powering down a stunningly rendered patch of the California coast. There's also a segment of street racing through Paris, involving a heated exchanged with the McLaren MP4-12C and a Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG, among others.
